I woke up to my mom banging on the door and screaming at me

I opened the door and a belt whipped across my face

I winced in pain. tears welling up in my eyes

I slammed the door shut and my mom stomped off

I got dressed brushed my hair and teeth and put on a little makeup and tried to cover up the burn from the belt but it was too red

I ran downstairs grabbed my book bag and an apple and was off to school

As I get to the school parking lot I see Austin's car and smile

As I walk down the hall I see people rushing by and talking to their friends

I grab my books and go to class

As I'm walking I look around for Austin. I don't know why I guess I really do like him I can't he cheats on every girl he goes out with and I don't want to be that girl

I look down at my phone and see a text from maddie saying she isn't coming to school because she's sick

All of a sudden I fall to the ground smacking into someone and my books fly everywhere. I hear laughter everywhere

"I am soooo sorry!!!" I say over all the laughter

"It's ok, I should have been paying attention."

I look up and see this guy. He pretty cute he has brown hair and green brown eyes

"I'm Kevin"

"I'm kylie" I say as a girl walks up to Kevin

"Hey babe. everything ok?" She asks

"I accidentally ran into her and knocked all her books down so I was going to help pick them up." he said picking up my last book

We get up and the girl says "I'm leslie"

"Nice to meet you leslie, I'm kylie."

The bell rang and the quickly walked off

"We have to go...See ya later kylie!" I heard Kevin yell looking back at me

I get to the classroom and Austin is there so I sit by him and he kisses me on the cheek. I blush and look away

"Hey!" he says putting his arm around my shoulder

"Hey" I say putting away my phone

"Hello class, today we have a new student joining us. everybody this is jake." the teacher says

Jake sits in the empty seat next to me

He has dirty blonde hair, thin lips and blue eyes. Almost like an ocean blue

Austin removes his arm from around me and pulls out some gum "want some?"

"Sure" I take a piece of mint flavored bubblegum

"thanks!" I say putting it in my mouth and putting the trash in my book bag

"Hey cutie" I hear from my side

Jake said that

"What? me?" I ask

"Yeah you."

Austin leans over and says "ahem, she's mine."

"Wait when did I become your girl?" I ask austin giving him a confused look

"plus I'm not gonna go out with you because you use every girl you date."

I add

he rolls his eyes. gets up and walks out the door without permission. I guess he has a very short temper

"Wanna get coffee after school...?" jake asks

"It's kylie, and I would love to."

"I'll come get you after my football practice."

"Okay. sounds great!"

After class I walk out with jake and we talk about music and all sorts of food

"Where's room 3b?" jake asks

"Down the hall and Around the corner"

I say pointing in that direction

"Thanks. I'll talk to you at lunch"

"Ok, see ya later!" I say with a little too much excitement

I stare at him walking down the hall

I shake my head

No boys! no boys! no boys!

I won't let boys take over my life

I just can't let boys get in the way!
