I opened my eyes only to see my room filled with the golden Florida sun. I checked my calendar- it said it was Wednesday. February, 8, 2012 to be exact.Almost the end of this uneventful week. Although,it's been a year since anything interesting has happened to me. Therefore and uneventful week is mynorm. Man, I'm boring. I look at my alarm clock nextto my neatly stacked books. 7:00AM. My alarm hasn'teven gone off yet. Funny how I still own an alarm clock when I actually wake up before it goes off. I guess that's just me.I threw myself off of bed and got ready for school. It doesn't really take long for me to do this. Ishower, blow dry my hair and then put on my uniform.Having a school with a dress code saves A LOT oftime in the morning. I quickly put up my wavy redhair and got ready to go downstairs. It rained thepast few days here in the afternoons, so I picked upmy Lake Highland Prep School hoodie, it's the onlyone we're allowed to wear with our uniform, alongwith my school bag. I ran downstairs to find my mommaking pancakes and my dad reading the newspaper. Ilaugh to myself at the sight. Such a perfectstereotypical American family of four, and I belongin it.

I still don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing though.

"Good morning Natasha, honey" My mom said in her cheerful shrill voice.

"Morning mom! Morning daddy" I replied. I grabbed apiece of buttered toast waiting for me on the counter and a glass of orange juice. I ate there in silence for a while. The only sound was the sizzling of bacon on the frying pan. I never understood mymother. She's always cooking. She cooks too much and we never really eat it. Maybe it just gives her something to do. I have no idea.

"Nate called from New York" My mother said to break the silence. She was plating up all the useless food that she'd cooked.

Nate is my 19 year old brother by the way. He goes to college at NYU right now and he rings in from time to time. And yes, New York. Nate could've gone to any university in a neighboring state, any university in the state of Florida even-but he didn't. You might ask why one would trade sunshine and beaches for the traffic and cold weather of the big city and the reason is to get far far away from our parents. You see, my parents are perfect... a little TOO perfect maybe. Perfect parents want perfect children, Nate and I- we're far from perfect. At least I was, until I got transferedto a new school just last year.

"How is he?" I ask to clear my head. Nate and I arereally close actually. Although nobody ever seesmuch of a resemblance between the two of us. What-with my red locks and his dark brown hair, it'skinda hard for people to fit things together. Alsomy brother got the family's height gene... me on theother hand, not so much. People say I look a lotlike mom though- both gingers and everybody saysNate takes on from dad. Although Nate and I do sharemom's green eyes and pale complexion."He says he's doing fine, sweetie. He hasn't calledmuch because he's a tad bit busy with school. But hepromises he'll be here next month for yourbirthday."

"Oh, that's great then! I miss him a lot. Tell himthat if he calls again?" I say "Or better yet, tellme if he calls. I wanna tell him myself" Mom noddedher head in agreement.

"Speaking about your birthday" mom said in a seriousvoice. "We have to get it planned. I was thinking ofhaving a ball for you. It's going to be dazzlinghoney!" Mom continued rambling about stupid party ideas. I blocked her out and thought about otherthings like how it's my birthday and I think Ishould be in control. Ever since the stunts that Ipulled off last year, she's taken full dictatorshipof my life. My birthday party is going to end uplooking like a cotilion. I'm going to have to figureout how to tell her that this isn't what I want. Butbefore I get up and open my mouth dad cuts in.

"Honey, you better be off to school. Tim is waitingwith the car" Oh thanks dad. I rolled my eyesslightly (something that they wouldn't notice)I getup robotically, grab my things and run for the door.
