Sapphire's POV

After lunch ended, I pulled Amanda away from them again and dragged her to our room. "Just like we expected, they want to take us away." I said with a frown. Although this is a dream come true, I'm not sure if I could just leave. I enjoy helping Miss Candy doing chores, taking care of the younger ones, and of course I would miss the other friends I've made. This place is my home. My whole life happened here. It's just... really hard to let go, you know?

"Well, I honestly don't have a problem with that, but I know it's hard for you." She said with a sad smile. "What do you want to do about it?" She asked me.

A lot of things were running through my mind. But for now, I can't go with them just yet. "Come on, I have a plan." I told her and started explaining my newly formed plan.

England's POV

I'm not really reading my book, I was thinking about what Miss Candy said. It must have been really hard on her. Now I'm actually wondering if this is a good idea at all. She's just so mysterious in so many ways. You'd think she was some sort of average child who lived a good life and raised well by her parents. Not some orphan who saw her own family die in front of her.

I've read a lot of things about teenagers hiding their real emotions behind a smile. Was that the case for this girl? Was she secretly hurting inside? Or worse, was she harming herself? Also, Miss Candy mentioned Sapphire and Amanda being inseparatable. Germany would be furious if he found out we brought along another one! Bloody hell, why did I ever agree to do this...

"Earth to Arthur! Geez, old man, are you going deaf?" America so RUDELY interrupted my thoughts and waved his hands in front of my face. I slapped his hands away and huffed. "Will you stop that?" I snapped. He raised his hands up in surrender and sat on the sofa, where Francis was sitting. I didn't know the frog was here.

"Ah, Angleterre, you looked so stressed! No wonder you're not as fabulous as moi!" He said. If there weren't kids around, I would have cursed him. "Wanker." I merely said and sighed.

Just then, a girl about the age of 6 came up to me, her big brown eyes looking at me with curiosity. "Why do you talk funny?" She asked while playing with her short brunette hair. I chuckled and placed her on my lap, earning a cute little giggle from her. "I come from a place far away from here. If you lived there, you'd be the one who would sound funny." I told her.

"Then, I'm gonna learn how to talk like you!" She proclaimed, dashing off to probably tell her friends about it.

Humans are so stress-free, aren't they? As children, we nations already had to know how to take care of our land. We had to protect them from other nations who wanted our land. We always had to act all high and mighty.

But... I find it sad how these children get left behind by their parents or guardians. They don't deserve this at all.

"Iggy? What's wrong?" America asked me. "I was thinking about how these children didn't deserve to be abandoned by their families." I said. "It's unfair for them. So many families out there are happily spending their lives doing so many things with their kids, while these children..." I trailed off and sighed.

"Well, that's what orphanages are for, right?" America told me with a grin. "Families could happily take these children in. They'd be adopted and taken in by families who aren't blessed with a child, or those gays and lesbians who want a child too! Besides, everyone here is considered family, so technically, they're not lonely." He said.

"But what about Sapphire? She's been living here for nearly 7 years, Alfred! Someone should've adopted her by now." I exclaimed.

"She never wanted to be adopted." Someone said, which was miss Candy, who just came from the kitchen. "Lots of families wanted to adopt her, but she refused. I tried asking her why before, but all she told me was that it wasn't the right family." She said with a laugh.

"Maybe she is scared," said France. "Scared of what? That her new parents would be evil villains who want to take over the world?" Alfred asked. He shook his head. "Scared to trust her life to someone else. She grew up here, so she learned to get along. But a change of lifestyle might be too much for her. She doesn't want history to repeat itself." He said.

Miss Candy nodded. "Probably. She never opened up to anyone but Amanda, which is kinda sad because I raised her." She said with a pout.

I was about to say something, when Francis, Alfred and I were ambushed by water balloons. "What the--"

"WE'LL NEVER GET ADOPTED!" Sapphire shouted, and in her hand, was a water gun.
