Breath in, breath out. That's all I could do at the moment. Squeezing my eyes tight, I rev up the engine, black smoke clouding my vision. The satisfying sound of the engine coming to life gives me chills down my spine.

One more time, breathe in, breathe out.

A moan from the outside of the door hauntingly reminds me it's now or never.

Kissing the charm around my neck, I pull down my face mask.

My mind is mad with thoughts. How did I end up in a situation like this? Who would've known such evil this world could contain?

With my adrenaline pumping, I grip both hands on the chainsaw and kick open the door to see the enemy.

I'm faced with the most gruesome creature whose complexion resembled the gray sky. Foam lingered at his mouth, cuts coated his body, and his eyes were as emotionless as him. This creature resembled a character out of a Stephen King novel, making you squirm under your skin.

I could feel the child in me screaming to run, hide, and never look back. Everything said to go but my feet stay planted to the floor. It was only moments until this zombie smelt me and I would be the next victim.

With every ounce of strength I had, I lifted up the chainsaw and ran straight towards him, screaming my childhood, my innocence, and the old MK behind me.

It was October 30th, one day before my favorite holiday; Halloween. Many people in Rock Hill, South Carolina would frown at the thought of any spookiness. Ever since the massacre that occurred last year at the town's annual Halloween party, people are mortified by the idea. Though this appeared ironic as everyone living here seems to be creepy to me.

Instead, this year we are remembering those who have fallen and reminisce their memory with a fall fair on Halloween night.

I groan as soon as I whip into my parking spot. A banner advertising for the fall fair is hung at the entrance of the school. Underneath is my god awful stepfather, otherwise known as Renaissance High's principal. His midnight-black hair matched his eyes, and little did anyone know, his soul was identical too.

Grabbing my bag, I shut and lock my car. As I'm about to stick my headphones in, I hear a familiar whistle. Turning my head slightly, I see his dark orbs pouring deep into mine.

"Good morning Madalyn, are you going to be attending tonight's first annual fall fair with your mother and I?". His smile was immense and evil, resembling Cheshire's from Alice in Wonderland.

Rolling my eyes, I chuckled under my breath, the ignorance. "Over my dead body Irish, now if you'll excuse me I have a class to attend".

It was as if he expected nothing less from me. Lifting one of his perfectly shaped eyebrows, he smiled once again and shook his head "What a shame, you'll be missing a show".

Not wanting to waste any more of my breath on the coward, I gave him a fake smile and shoved past him into my next hated thing; Renaissance High School.

I couldn't begin to tell you how excited I was to be almost done with this place. I just wanted my diploma handed to me so I could get the hell out. I wish I could say it was your typical high school that had preps, jocks, and nerds. But, Renaissance had to be as strange as the town itself.

Instead, you're surrounded by people you've never thought you'd see in your life. People you would read in storybooks.

One corner of the hall is a gathering of girls who believe they're destined to be witches. Their outfits consisted of long dresses that touched the floor, unique jewelry that made you questioned if it was homemade, and heavy makeup with black lipstick. Each girl had their own 'powers', 'potions', and 'spells'. It's been rumored that they have a book called "The Wonders of the Witches", holding all the secrets about them.

Oh, and let's not forget each of their hair is a different shade, so together they look like a Gothic rainbow.

Standing by the lockers were the Gypsies. They're as close as you can get to your typical preppy girls with athletic builds, beautiful long hair, and glowing smiles. Their clothes always seemed a little too tight and a bit too short. Oh, and of course their make up appearing as if it's painted on. They're our cheerleading squad, the Lady Knights, who cheered on our state title champions; the Knights. Typical I know.

The two groups were a pair, like peanut butter and jelly. You always see a gypsy paired with a knight.

By the water fountains stood the Big Tops, whose talents and looks resembled a circus crew. They acted like a huge family, coming in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. They always perform their talents together into one big show, like the show they're putting on tonight for the fall fair.

Finally, at the end of the hall always stood the Black Crows. They were the most feared gang in town, they put the Sons of Anarchy to shame. Like any biker gang, they wore matching leather jackets with crows wing's stretched out across the back. If you wanted in, good luck getting out.

Then there was the rest of us, the Drifters.

People like me got the name because we didn't fit with any of the groups above, so we float with each other. Which, I couldn't be any more grateful for us, because without my friends who knows how sane I would be.

I get to my class, opening the door I can already see Lindsey grinning at me.

"Look what the cat dragged in, don't you look cheery today?".

Sticking my tongue at her, I watch her throw her head back in laughter.

Suddenly the devil himself begins to speak from the intercom.

"Good morning students, I just wanted to make a quick reminder to everyone about our first annual fall fair happening tonight. We know how last year many lives were impacted, so we're here to not only turn the situation into a learning experience, but a time to come together and have a great evening. I hope to see you guys there! Remember, you can make this day a great one..."

Groaning, I looked back at Lindsey and mimicked Principal Helix as he finished his statement

"Or not, the choice is yours. Have a great one".

Once again that morning I watch as Lindsey's head falls back, erupting with a fit of giggles.
