I see her face in my mind
Her sweet smile, her gentle laugh
In my head, that track plays on rewind.

That smile was a curse and a cure
It brightened up the day of everyone around her
But it blinded us to her pain.

We couldn't see that she was crying, hurting
That her smile was just a mask
Concealing her thoughts of a sweet release.

        "I'm fine."

She'd say, and give us that laugh
The one that made the angels sing
The blessing we always took for granted.

           "I'm ok."

She'd assure us, smiling
But it was only a disguise
Hiding the vicious pain in those sad, blue eyes.

You could look at them,
and think that she was happy
But as soon as you turned away
The sadness returned to her face
The nightmares returned to her head

I wish we could say it wasn't her
The body found bloody in a bathtub
Her hand holding the knife that ended it all.

In a blink of an eye
The happiest girl we'd ever met,
Had suddenly gone
and taken her life.

And although her life ended
the nightmare never thins
Because when nightmares ends
Another set begins.
