It was October 7, 2019. Emma was sitting in her house one day listening to music and drawing when she heard sirens screaming throughout the city. Instinctively, she thought they were bomb sirens and quickly made her way to her basement, grabbing her cat on the way. She saw her family there. Along with a group of men and one woman who looked to be no older than 30. Luckily, she managed to notice then before she turned the corner and could not be in their sight. She didn’t know who they were, and she was intimidated by their dark solider like uniforms and large weapons. As she was forced to stand there silently, she had to watch her family get taken away through the basement door and put into a large bus with several other families who were crying and holding on tight to each other. The second the men left she could look around. She didn’t know whether to feel offended that her parents forgot about her, or thankful that they didn’t tell the guards that she was still there so that they could’ve gone looking for her. When she put shaking the cat down she noticed blood dripping down he arms and forming a small puddle on the ground. The cat was so nervous that he had stuck his claws right through her flesh and she was so scared that she didn’t even realize. Once she got out of her shock she felt the excruciating pain and had to hold back screams, not only from the cat but from the loss of her family. She walked to the bathroom to grab a first aid kit and bandage herself up. The only thing she could do was sit there and cry. Why were her parents taken away? Was it the government? What could they have done that was so bad that they had to be taken away? She sat in the cold dark basement for what seemed to be an hour when so looked up only to realize that it had been a mere 5 minutes. She lifelessly limped up the basement stairs and walked into the kitchen to grab something to eat. As she walked up to the fridge and reached for a yoghurt she saw a small black figure. Her cat followed the shadow into the next room and Emma followed. The lights were out and it was dark considering they didn’t have may windows. With her shaking, sweaty hands she slowly reached down to grab the figure. It was soft, with a thick smooth surface. She reached over to the light switch, keeping one hand on the creature. The lights flickered and as they did, she relied that the creature, was a cat. But not just any cat, her best friend Austen’s Cat. She noticed a small piece of paper tied to the cat’s leg with black and silver ribbon. She picked up the note and it read “I know what happening. Come to my house as soon as you can. And bring Otto back.” As soon and she finished reading she grabbed his cat along with hers and ran over to Awsten’s house, forgetting all about her hunger. She ran behind the houses, trying to avoid being seen. She stopped once she got to the backyard with a pool that had a small waterfall structure and a trampoline that’s used to jump into the pool with. She walked up to the back door and it creaked open. She entered the house with caution, keeping an eye out for Awsten. His dad worked for the government but she, along with the rest of Awstens family weren’t allowed to know. After walking around the whole first floor, she let go of the cat and thought that Otto could find awsten for her. To her surprise, this worked because right when she let go, Otto ran straight to the attic stairs, which Awsten had forgotten to close. She walked up the newly refurbished, dark wooden stairs and saw Awsten, drinking orange juice straight out of the carton like he always does. Once he finished, he looked up at Emma and ran up to her and immediately hugged her. “I was so afraid they took you” he said, squeezing her tight in his slightly buff arms. Awsten was tall, around 6 feet, he had short, messy, dyed blue hair, and always wore band t shirts or shirts or dorky shirts. Today he was wearing his Batman shirt. Emma had been friends with him for about 7 years now, ever since they met in in 4th grade. She was now in 10th and he was her best friend. Awsten on the other hand wanted more. He thought that she was the smartest and braves girl he knew. He didn’t want to make a move in fear of ruining their friendship. He let her go out of his grip and backed up. Emma and Awsten Walked over to a small corner in the attic where awsten had set up a fan, a lamp, and 2 beanbag chairs for them to sit on. They sat down and Awsten had started explaining. “the government has collapsed. Ever since the president can into power, people were mad and started rebelling. The president and everyone who works for the government and their families have been taken away. I don’t know what going to happen to them, but I’m hoping it doesn’t kill them. Your dad lied to you. He wasn’t a successful Business man. He worked for the government, but not in the way you think. He was…. just a guard. But he was the best guard I’ve ever seen” he finished trying to make her feel better. She had thought that he was a business man who just couldn’t find a client and that’s why they didn’t have money. But he was just a mere guard. Such a small position got him taken away. And no one know what was to happen. Not even the people who were taking the families away. “But why didn’t they take you?” They said at almost the same time. Awsten said it was because he could hide in a secret panic room he had made with Emma a few years back. They waited for Awsten's parents to leave and started breaking through the wall where there were no pipes and made a small room. They continued to dig and found a panic room that was already in the house but had no entrance. He hid in there until the people had left and moved on to the next family. He then moved on to the attic since it was bigger and had more breathable air.  ****This chapter isn't done I just thought I'd post it ***
