" i kellin where's the stool!" we end up yelling as loud as we can so we can hear each other over the alarm. "i don't know! i can't find it!" that's when i see the burning food turn to fire. "SHIT! VIC TURN OFF THE FUCKING STOVE. ITS ON FIRE!" "WHAT?" i repeat myself. "THE FUCKING STOVE IS ON FIRE!" "SHIT!" Vic is somewhere out of the room, so i try to turn off the stove. but its spreading rapidly. i can't reach the source of the fire because it has spread to quickly. i start to get really dizzy from all the smoke. i'm coughing so much it hurts. i feel myself fall into someone's arms. it doesn't feel like Vic's. but my head hurts to much to think right now.
seconds later, i feel the cold pavement outside our house. i hear someone talking to me. i don't recognize the voice. "sir. sir, can you hear me? is there anyone else in the house?" i cough and attempt to talk back. "Vic. he's still in there." i see someone run back into the house. i don't realize that Vic is still in the house until i told him.
"wait! fuck! VIC!" i want to go back in, but the firefighters stop me before i can. "sir we'll get him out of there. i promise." i'm waiting for vic to come out of the house for what felt like forever now. i get more and more anxious with every second i wait for him.
a woman firefighter comes out of the house carrying Vic in her arms. i run toward her, but she quickly walks past me to set Vic down. "i think he's still conscious. just needs some assisted oxygen." she grabs the oxygen mask, lifts his head up, and puts the mask over his face. i'm kneeling on the ground and push his hair back, as i grab his hand. tears fall down my face "come on Vic." i whisper so soft no one but me could hear it. he slowly opens his eyes, but then they close a second after.
he starts to gasp for air. the woman looks at me and tells me to calm him down. "hey, baby, you have to stay calm for me ok? just stay calm. you're fine." i continue to brush his hair back. his eyes still aren't open, but he starts to calm. i look up at the woman that's still next to me and Vic. "is he your partner?" at first i wasn't sure if i wanted to share that information but i realized how proud i am to be with his man. "yes i am." she replies instantly. "i'm so happy for you." i was surprised that she actually looked happy for me.
"kellin." i hear Vic say weakly. i look down. his eyes are open, but he looks really tired. the woman took the mask off of Vic. he starts coughing but its not to bad. "yea?" i say with concern. "i'm still hungry." we both can't help laughing. "once they leave, we can go get something to eat."
a man walks toward us. "alright so it seems like everything is under control. there's not much damage except for some of the kitchen." i help vic sit up. "thank you" i say as they start to leave. i wait for the firemen to pack up and leave before helping vic to the car. "hold on. i'm going to grab the keys, then we can leave." "alright sounds good." he starts to get up but i tell him to remain there as i grab the keys.
i walk into the house, and they were right. there's no damage except for some in the kitchen. i grab the keys, but before i leave, i check to see if the picture of the fans got any damage. there was none but it was pretty damn close. i grab Vic's and my phone before i walked out the door as well.
i walk out and Vic's still where i left him, except he's laying back down humming a song. "hey i got your phone and the picture of the fans is perfectly intact." i crouch down and put his arm over my shoulder to help him to the car. i open the passenger side door first so he can get in. i get in the car and freeze for a second wondering if i should ask this. "hey Vic, can i see copeland tonight? if katelynn would invite us over?" "yea kells of course."
i grab my phone to call katelynn. it rings for a while but she picks up. when she does i hear crying in the background. she sounds exhausted. "kellin thank god you called. i'm glad you're ok. can you come over? bring Vic if you want. i- i don't care just come over." "wait is that copeland? katelynn what's going on?" "she misses you like crazy. she's been crying for the past three days because you haven't talked to her." "shit. alright i'm on my way. i was calling to see if you would let us over anyway. i'm already in the car and i have Vic." she takes a sigh of relief. "alright thank god." "ok i'll see you in 10 minutes, bye." i hang up the phone.
