"Jordan, be sure to get there to back her up!" I yell at my teammate who is now out of breath and drenched in sweat. When I look around I see that everyone else is as well. I also spot a group of guys all swarming around the fence dressed in white baseball pants and cleats. I wave at my brother before turning back to my team. "Ok, one more girls! Round two!" I yell making sure all the girls could hear me.
I watch as the girls around me get down and ready yelling out the last part of what I said, "Rounding two!" I smile at my team and wait for our coach to hit the ball. When I finally hear the smack of the bat I jump into action looking for its course. I see it fly over third and sprint to second base waiting for the ball. When left field finally throws it in I touch the bag and spin around using the momentum to throw the ball to first.
Tories glove snaps closed I see all the girls look at me asking to leave. "Practice is over, have a good weekend girls." I say softly smiling at all of them.
When I walk towards the dugout Toriee stops me. "You still up for coming to Jacob's party tonight?" she asks smiling hopefully.
"Nah, I think I'm gonna stay back and hit a few ball then go home." I say before taking a big drink of my water.
"Well if you change your mind you know the party is gonna be going on all night." I wave at her as she yells back from her car.
I take another drink then go back to the field as the boys are now walking slowly towards me. I take a deep breath and throw a ball into the air watching it as it comes into my 'zone' and I swing the bat hitting it towards the back fence down third base line. I do the same thing but turn my feet and body so this time it goes down first base line. Then I take a deep breath and turn my feet again aiming down the center of the field. I watch the ball after throwing it higher than before. I swing as hard as I can and the ball comes just a few feet short of the back fence.
I curse under my breath as the boys make their way closer to me. I lay the bat against the back stop and sit on the short brick wall next to it. I look at Matt and his large group of friends which has more people in it then clothes. "What, could you guys not afford to buy your own shirts, so you all share one?" I ask pointing at James who happened to really be the only one who had a shirt on.
"Very funny sis." Matt says taking my water bottle and drinking the last of it. "I wanted to ask you to do me a solid." I just look over the group not knowing what they would want me for.
"Zoey," I hear Bryce say softly coming to the front next to Matt. "We just need you to do one thing." As he talks I can't help but scroll down his tone muscular chest and flat abs. he was one of those guys that every girl wanted and he knew it to. I let my eyes roam over his body not hiding it as well as I thought I was. Since when I moved my eyes back to his he gave me a flirty wink. I feel my cheeks burn as I look back away from him and at Matt.
"So will you just get to the point?" I jump up from the wall and grab my bat walking into the outfield to retrieve my softballs.
"Well," I hear Matt say as he and his friends follow closely behind me. "We heard that Jacob is throwing a party tonight and none of the guys really hang out with him, plus I know he use to really like you so I was wondering if you could hook us up?" he asked rubbing his hands together.
"Yeah, I'll try but I'm not going so no promises I'll be able to get you in." I say picking up my last ball and jogging back to the dugout leaving the boys to celebrate in the outfield. Well, all of them except Bryce who slowly walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "What are you doing?" I ask turning around so I was facing him his strong arms still around me.
"I missed you." He said referring to the school year him and Matt had spent in Florida instead of in California. I hug him back only patting his back once before pushing him away from me.
