When I walked in the first thing I noticed is how filled the huge house looked with so many people. Instead of looking for friends I looked for a room where I can be alone. I walked down the long familiar hallway and found Jacob's door easily. I grip the doorknob thinking about what he was going to do when I walk in. I smile to myself as I think about last time I was in his room. I open the door and watch as he turns, but not alone.
"What are you doing here Zoey?" he asks pulling the blanket off the other person and over himself.
All I can do is stare at the guy lying in his bed. "What am I doing? What are you doing?" I say as I look at Jacob finally.
"I can explain." He starts and I cut him off.
"I'm so stupid; I can't believe I thought you liked me!" I yell starting to turn and walk away.
"I do, you know I have mixed feeling about what I want." His voice hints that this is my fault and I feel like smacking him across that face.
"I don't know they were this mixed!" I close the door and run back down the stairs not wanting to look at him ever again. As I ran down the stairs I turned and hit a solid figure. "Sorry." I turn and wipe my tears as I try to hide from the figure.
"Zoey, what happened?" I hear a soft voice ask.
"Nothing, I'm just not in a party mood anymore." I say wiping away a frustrated tear and smiling before turning around and finally looking back at the tall figure. "Bryce?" I ask not needing to look at his facial features to know but only his muscular build.
"C'mon let me take you home." he says offering me his arm.
"I have my own car I don't need your charity." I snap a little more vicious than I meant to.
"I know that, you're a strong girl and all, but I don't want to be here and you look like you're about to start balling so I think it would be safer if you just let me take you home I'm going back there anyways." he explains but doesn't wait for me to answer before taking my keys and starting back through the door.
"What do you mean you're going back there?" I ask trying to sound less curious and happy then I really felt.
"All the boys and I are staying at your brothers tonight." I watch as he shrugs has tone shoulders that have checked me in the hallways so many times.
"Why did he do that?" I ask out loud without meaning to.
"Do what?" I hear him say as I try to cover it up.
"Nothing."
"You can tell me I don't care." I watch as he runs his hand through his hair worried what I was going to ask.
"Why did you and all of Matt's friends use to shoulder check me when I was walking down the hallway?" I finally blurt out.
He waits a few seconds before answering. "Well I liked you, I don't know about the rest of them."
I stopped in shock at what he said, I had liked him since I watch him and my brother play catch the first day he came over to the house. I remember leaning against the cold brick wall outside and feeling the light summer breeze sweep across the grass I was playing with. I had been sitting outside for hours just waiting on my brother to get home from school. I had another year till I could even start so I didn't have many friends besides the ones my brother let me play with.
I see my mom's bright red truck pull up in the driveway and I stand up, when I looked in the window I saw three boys, one was matt, the other Jacob (who after that day never hung out with my brother again for some reason), and the last was Bryce. I smiled when I saw him and didn't stop at all that day. The best part was when Matt went inside because he was hungry and Bryce offered to play with me.
