It's cold, dark, and wet. I can't see anything except pitch blackness, until I slowly peel open my eyes that had previously been squeezed shut. I turn my head in all directions, scanning my surroundings which appear to be nothing but water. Not just any water, I can tell I'm submerged deeply within the ocean because of the taste of salt in my mouth. I can breath without oxygen, and I am calm, floating along with the gentle movements of waves. I feel as though I am in touch with my inner self and the ecosystem of fish and seaweed all around me, my mind is is completely content and at ease; I am more peaceful than I have ever been before. Suddenly, the peace is disturbed when a threat, unbeknownst to me, causes the colorful fish which were once trailing by my side to scatter and retreat into coral and under rocks. Confused, I search the area, but am unable to determine just what could have stimulated such a frightful response. The water seems to have dropped to a chilling temperature in a matter of seconds, and I shiver, half out of fear. It's the strangest thing, the fact that I do not even know what it is I fear. Then, I see it; and I know. A massive grey body, with white underneath, and two black, beady eyes on the front staring directly into my soul as the distance between the creature and I grows smaller and smaller. Every cell in my body refuses to move even an inch, refusing to listen to my silent screams and pleas. I am paralyzed, staring into the face of death, and my steadily growing fear is spiked when the creature opens its jaws to reveal a set of white, razor-sharp teeth, and I know it is my fate to be soon ripped to shreds by them. I close my eyes, and brace myself for the excruciating pain I am convinced is coming...but, the pain never came, even after what seemed like hours of keeping my eyes shut. I finally decide to see what exactly what happened, so I lift my eyelids to reveal...nothing. All I see for miles is a black abyss, I cannot even see my own hand in front of my face; everything is absolutely devoid of light. I can still sense water circulating around my limbs, so I attempt to move, but my body still remains motionless. I start to panic and take large, gasping breaths, and water moves into my mouth and goes down my throat, filling my lungs. I try to calm myself down, and this is proved a useless attempt as I continue to gulp for air where this is none, and no way of getting any. Slowly but surely, I feel my lungs filling up with more and more water as seconds go by, and I begin to wish I had just been torn apart by the shark; that, I figure, would be an easier way to go than this. The suffering is unbearable, being paralyzed in pitch darkness, unable to move or speak, and slowly drowning to death. After what could have been a few minutes or a few hours, I finally see the light illuminating every square inch of the abyss, and I realize this must be God taking me into his arms and allowing me to descend into heaven after my torturous death. As I feel myself being lifted, a single blaring note sounds in my ears, over and over again. I sit up quickly, covered in sweat and breathing heavily as I throw the covers off of my heated body and turn my annoying alarm off with the swift click of a button.Damn it, I had that dream again, I think to myself. The same dream of drowning has occurred every night for the past two weeks, and I've been distraught, trying to figure out what exactly this could mean. Right now, I have no time to ponder over the deep, metaphorical meaning of my dream, because the task at hand is getting myself ready for yet another exciting day at high school. I grab my phone off of the floor and scroll through multiple messages from my friends:
Jade: we're skipping skool 2day, rite?
Ron: duh
Colby: i'll bring the beer
Zack: hell yeah
Sasha: i gotta be in first period. Mom's been on my ass bout attendance
Jade: boo, loser
Colby: u still need 2 drop off the weed
Sasha: yeah sure
Ron: Em, where u at?
