"It's okay, mom. I think maganda rin na makipagkilala ako so I can work on my confidence" I smiled to show her that I'm really up for this, she smiled back and nodded.
" I think he's older than you, I still hope you'll get along though" older huh? Well, if he isn't interested in being acquainted then it's okay with me. I saw my mom staring at me from the mirror. I smiled as an assurance.
" Ma'am, kami na po ang bahala sa mga dala niyo. Naghihintay na po sila sa may veranda" salubong samin ng isang ginang na may maaliwalas na ngiti.
The house is big but simple. Maayos din ang disenyo for a beach house. I can hear the sound of the waves along with the sound of the wind chimes from afar. Looks like I'll enjoy my stay here then.
Nabalik lang ang atensyon ko ng tawagin na ako ni Mama.
"Maya! Anton! It's been years" a woman in her white dress came running from the porch leaving a man alone, smiling.
"Pare, kamusta ang b'yahe?"
"Ija?" the woman is now looking at me "Eto na ba si Averie?" sabay tingin niya kay Mama."Jusko napakatagal na nga! You guys should see Caden, He just turned 18, ambilis talaga ng panahon"
"Manang, Pakisamahan nalang sila sa mga kwarto nila" tawag niya sa isa pang ginang" You guys should rest first. Ija, if you want to roam around or take a dip, feel free to do so" she was smiling genuinely.
Hinatid kami sa mga tutuluyan naming silid. Naka hiwalay ako kay na Papa. The room looks so cozy. Hinahangin ang mga kurtinang manipis at puti dahil sa malakas na hangin. Nakabukas ang pinto paputang veranda. You can see the sea from there. Ang peaceful ng pakiramdam lalo na sa tunog ng malakas na alon at ng wind chimes. Looks like our month's stay here will be worth it.
The waves are calling me. I was given permission to roam so I will take this chance habang nagpapahinga sina Papa. I've decided to go to the beach.
"Who are you?" sa gulat ko bigla akong napalingon sa likod ko " What are you doing here?"
"U-uh I-" he raised his brows waiting for me to answer " I'm Averie, I arrived with my family this afternoon." he remained silent.
"You must be the Dequendo's son?" He's so intimidating. Basta alam ko na wala akong ginagawang masama.
"Yea, I'm Caden. As I've heard, your family is going to stay here for a month, huh?" I nodded in response. "Enjoy your stay, I guess" he smirked before he left.
I decided to just shrug it off. Napagdesisyonan ko nang sumulong sa dagat. Hindi ako gaano magaling lumangoy kaya hanggang mababaw na parte lang ang pwede kong puntahan. I was still underwater when I heard a splash from somewhere.
I can't get enough of how at ease my heart is due to the sound of the waves, the sound of the trees, and the beautiful sky. It makes me want to forget the city life and stay here. Nakadagdag rin na dahil hapon na hindi na gaanong masakit sa balat ang araw.
"Hey, Avie" kung kanina payapa ang uso ko ngayon ang tila nagwawala na ito sa kaba.
"My name's Averie" I said not turning to face him. I don't feel comfortable enough to talk with him. Feel ko hindi ko kayang sabayan makipag usap sa kanya.
"So... Avie, would you like to hang out with me? I mean you're staying here for a month. We might as well get along, right?" But I'm not good at socializing with people. Gusto ko yun sabihin sa kaniya pero naisip ko na baka maganda narin to para matuto akong makisalamuha ng walang tulong ng iba. I turned to face him.
"If it's okay with you, then sure." I smiled a little.
"Caden... Vladimir Caden. I hope we'll get along Avie" he offered me his hands.
" Averie...Mariyah Averie" and I accepted it.
