I was just finishing the room when Meg came knocking on the door.
"Can I talk to you?" She asked holding the door
"Of course," I said smiling then I looked at her and noticed her agitation, "what's wrong?"
"You"
I smiled, "Thank you for that complement"
"I am serious," she said coming to me and holding my hands, "what is the matter?"
"Nothing is the matter," I said leaving her to continue doing the bed, "I am fine"
"Amelia, I know you for years. I know when something is wrong," she said in a motherly way.
"I like your nephew"
She grinned, "Wonderful"
"No, because Cecelia likes him too," I said feeling the load of the words on my heart.
"Edward is too smart to fall for her tricks," she said dismissing the thought.
I put the pillow on the bed, "it looks like he isn't that smart because he has already fallen for them"
"What?" She said with horror.
"Your nephew likes Cecelia very much and Cecelia is seeking an engagement"
"Good heavens," she said while sitting down on the bed. She actually looked pale.
"Sorry to disturb you," I said while sitting next to her, "but you were going to find out sooner or later"
She looked at me with worry in her eyes, "he is going to be miserable. I know Cecelia as I know Edward, they are different in everything"
"Except he doesn't know that"
She nodded. When her expression became more miserable, I put an arm around her and held her close to me, "everything is going to be fine, Meg"
After a few moments of comforting, I decided to change the mood, "since you are here that should mean that two helpless men are sitting with my sister right now"
She laughed, "Don't worry, she will still choose Edward"
"So you noticed, too," I said with a raised eyebrow.
She looked at me and said, "He only has two cases and one of them has his medical things,"
I continued, "The other case is very small so it only has his essentials,"
"His suit is very cheap and old"
"And Edward took him from the station,"
Then we said in unison, "He is poor"
"I am very happy that I have someone to practice my deductions with," she said with a wide smile.
I curtsied, "at your service, ma'am"
With us laughing we left the room and went downstairs as the doorbell rang.
"I will get it," I said running to the door and opening it, "Dr Philips!"
He held me in a tight hug. Dr Philips is a man of forty five years old with smooth white hair, a thin face and was of the same height of me, which was tall. He is like a second father to me. If father was out of town and I needed someone's help, he would be the one who I will consult.
"How do you do, my dear?"
"Very well, doctor and you?"
"Good"
He looked behind me to find Meg with an angry look.
"Mrs. Walsh," he said taking her hand and planting a very soft kiss on it.
