It was late, or should you say early. Definitely an hour at which your father didn't think you'd be up. Yet you were.
It was 2:35 a.m. The avengers tower was shut down, of course besides the lights that brighten up the night and the security guards that walk around.
You should've been in your room, asleep nice and cozy, but you couldn't sleep. The nightmares haunted you every night ever since that battle. But it wasn't just that battle that haunted you, the battle of New York and when you and your farther faced the Mandarin. Ultron. The defeat of Ultron is what left you terrified.
The Battle of New York reminded of you of the fact that, although he may seem like it, your father wasn't invincible. He could die just like every other human being on earth, and that scared you. You never had to think about life without him, life without Tony was just imaginable.
After New York, you and Tony were both pretty messed up. You both had different reasons for it, but Pepper knew you two would never be the same. Then, the Mandarin showed up. Bombed your home, separated you and Tony separated from Pepper. Pepper captured and mutated. Your dad with panic attacks every now and then, especially meeting that curious kid. Not did this Mandarin guy test the limits of your entire family, he really tested the limits of how far Tony would go to save the people he cares about. He protected you throughout the journey to get to Pepper, and for a second his heart broke thinking he lost his beloved Pepper.
Ultron. Ultron made you question everything you thought you knew. A dormant peace keeping system turnt bad. The stress of literally the world falling into the Avengers hands. Your buddy J.A.R.V.I.S. was gone, although you know he was pretty much just a part of vision now, but at the same time vision wasn't J.A.R.V.I.S. So many people loved the Avengers for "saving" Sokovia, yet so many more hated them.
All of your lives had been changed for better or for worse, but yours, your life changed in a way at which you could almost never recover. That's what Tony feared the most.
Tony told you to stay out of it, to stay with Pepper and stay safe, but you never listened. You knew you could do so much more, could help in so many different ways.
While everything was over and done, at night you still panicked as if you were going into battle.
You sat on the counter and looked at your suit. It was red like your fathers but dark grey replaced the gold. And just like your fathers, if was covered in scratches, dents, and small chips.
You took a deep breath before rubbing your eyes and looking down at your Spiderman fuzzy socks. Your Nike leggings tucked under you socks while your red Disneyland long sleeve hung loosely from your body.
"J.A.R.V.I.S.?" You called out for your old friend, barely audible.
"I miss you, old pal" you whispered to yourself.
You sat in silence before hearing two knocks on the glass door, slightly scaring you and causing you to hop off of the counter.
"Hey there munchkin, what are you doin down here at this time?" Tony walked in, his black silk robe shining under the lights.
"I uh, I just thought I left something down here, and I guess I didn't" you lied and gave a fake smile.
"No you didn't" Tony saw right through your lies.
"How long have you been having nightmares baby?" He slowly walked closer to you, his head tilting and his tone was soft.
You sighed before looking up at him, your eyes watering.
"Because that...would be the only reason you're down here" he was finally in front of you, hands in his pockets, waiting for a tear to fall before he hugged you.
You took a shaky breath before speaking.
"Almost every night since Sokovia" you pretty much whispered. Tears finally rolling down your cheeks as you blinked.
Tony pulled you into his embrace, his arms tightly wrapping around you. You tightly wrapped your arms around your father.
"I know" you took a deep breath, trying not to sound shaky but it didn't work.
"I know I'm not a little kid anymore and I can't always go crying to daddy when I have a nightmare-"
"Baby, just cause you're 18 doesn't mean you're grown and you can't come to me if you have a problem. No matter how old you are, you're always gonna be my baby, and I'm always gonna be there for you" Tony wiped your tears away. You somewhat smiled and laid against his chest.
He stroked your messy hair, soothing you and trying to calm you down. He held you for a couple minutes, letting you calm down before asking you about your dreams.
"Do you wanna tell me about your bad dreams?" He spoke softly.
You sniffed a couple of times before looking up at Tony.
"They were all pretty much the same, they all were about you. I know what happened in New York was a long time ago, but it still haunts me ya know? Losing you is what scares me the most" fresh new tears rolled down your cheeks.
You could see the pain in eyes. He felt so bad for being the reason you were upset. All he's ever wanted to do was make you happy, and right now it was killing him to be the reason for your pain.
He sighed before wiping you tears away again. He unwrapped his arms from around you and cupped your face, his thumbs gently running over your rear stained cheeks.
"Baby, I'm sorry I'm the reason for your pain. I wish I could tell you that I'm invincible, and...I'm never gonna die, but I'd be lying if I did. I can't promise you I'll always come out of every fight, but there is one thing I can promise you. I will always fight for you. There's nothing I wouldn't do to keep you safe. Even if it ever meant my life or yours, I will always make sure you are protected" his words formed even more tears in your eyes. He kisses your forehead before wrapping his arms around you again, holding you as you cried.
You were speechless. There wasn't anything you could do besides cry and squeeze your father tightly.
You were an emotional wreck. The fear of losing your father also mixed with the love you have for him.
"I love you daddy" he was barely able to hear your words.
"I love you too baby girl" his head resting against yours as he spoke.
You two stood there for what seemed like hours, holding each other as you cried.
What you both didn't know was that Pepper saw and heard everything from the cameras Tony placed everywhere. Silent tears streaming from her eyes as she listened, taking in the beauty of such a relationship no one would ever break.
