Kaitlin was worried about her children. She knew they had made their choices as to who they wanted to be and where they wanted to live and she was proud of them for that. But at the same time, so many things were happening that she worried for their safety.
Clarke had been needlessly attacked and had killed an innocent woman just as needlessly. Someone was indiscriminately killing people for pleasure and poor Edward's spirit had been pushed to some dark place within his body and overtaken by Walter. It was incomprehensible. In one way or another, each of her children were putting themselves in danger to help their father keep peace between the united clans.
To cheer them all up, Kaitlin arranged a get-together between herself, Emily and Amelia. Her husband's old flame had grown considerably sweeter since she had accepted Damian's rule over the clans. She was no longer the selfish girl she used to be and had managed to fall in love with Noah. He had been so disappointed by his one night stand with Maria that he had finally decided to settle down. With her change of heart everything had gone swimmingly, but for some reason that peace was always ruined. The three women were in the middle of discussing the present situation when Trey interrupted them.
"I'm sorry to interrupt you ladies. I've just talked with Damian and I thought you would like to know of the progress we're making." He offered, interesting them all. He walked into the small sitting room, smiling at his wife Emily as he sat next to her and tried to find the most important information that he and Damian had just discussed. He needed something to tell them, that wouldn't worry them more.
"The children," Kaitlin began hopefully, unable to hide the motherly panic in her voice. She hoped that Aubrey or Ellis had sent word of his mission or that Knox was safe from harm, being most in the danger zone, as the first to discover the bodies. But he had no happy news for her and Trey could only offer a smile in apology.
"I'm afraid not, my lady. Indeed your son has discovered that no other than a vampire could have been involved in the deaths. He has exhausted every possibility, but it has been confirmed that a vampire is responsible." He apologized, giving them as much information he could after his discussion with Damian and his discussion with his son Knox. All the important people were investigating the matter and yet, after so much time, they were still mostly clueless as to who could have perpetrated the crime.
"We must keep our eyes open for young and old members of our community alike, for we cannot be certain who has done this thing. Damian is going to interrogate everyone within our own house and we shall ask the other elders to do the same for their own." He continued, advising them to be wary of all. It wasn't just the young, arrogant, newly turned vampires they had to watch out for. They would be the first to be blamed for such actions, but they weren't necessarily guilty.
Unfortunately, Damian's teaching technique had ensured that there were no frightened, egotistical young vampires anymore. He had made sure that no vampire, turned by another, should be left alone until taught the ways of their people and their laws. They all learned their place quickly. Clarke's transition, however, had made Damian furious enough to agree to punish his sire. It was unforgivable for any to be left alone, with no information as to what or who they were, which clan they belonged to or who could help them.
"But...how shall we know if they are being truthful?" Amelia asked, confused. How could any questions identify the criminal in their midst? No-one knew any of the true details of the attack, the where or when or how and so how could they ask such questions of a suspect?
"Damian will read their minds for the truth. There are certain questions he has devised for the interrogations, that will discover those most likely to be involved. They will be brought here to be read." Trey explained calmly, not letting their panic seep into himself. He wasn't worried any more. He knew that no matter what he had to do, Damian would solve this latest mystery. His son Edward would be returned to him unharmed and rid of Walter's cursed spirit and he would do it all with ease and dignity.
