I heard the soft quiver of my mother's voice as she sang her wake up song that morning. She opened my white wooden door and poked her head inside. Her song was always different, but the message always stayed the same. This morning she sang,

'Honey bun I love those silver eyes and how they shine,

Open open so I can see show them to me.....

Honey bunches of oats you have the power of eyes

So show me their original design....'

I opened my eyes to see her powdered makeup face and I smiled. He red lipstick always was her main facial attraction because it stood out due to her pale skin. No matter if she knew she was staying home all day she would always put on her makeup, I can't remember the last time I saw her without makeup on actually. I lifted my head on the cotton pillow and stroked my hair on gold then lifted my small body off the purple bed sheets. I lowered my frozen toes onto the warm carpet. I looked around through the darkness of my room for my llama wool slippers. Once I slipped them on I walked out into the hallway where my mother waited for me. My mother walked away from me further down the hall to where my brothers door sat, all closed up. My mother banged on that stiff door and screamed for my brother. I heard my brother clamber down the ladder from him loft bed. This his door squeaked open and I squeaked a small laugh when I saw him usual morning bed head. I went up and shook my hand through his shaggy hair. He pushed my hand away with little aggression because of his tiredness. I skipped happily down the narrow hallway till I got to the top of the stairs. I turned to make sure my mother was following. I loved when she was first in the kitchen because it made my day lots better when she placed my breakfast plate in front of me. I motioned for her to go first down the stairs she looked me straight in the eyes. "What a nice lady, I will serve cake for breakfast if I ever see your brother do that for me." Then she started down the stairs and turned to give my brother a look, but he wasn't even paying attention. Instead he was popping a pimple on his lip, which soon started pouring puss, out of disgust I scampered down the stairs after my mother.

"What's for breakfast this morning?" I asked once I hit the first floor.

"Well I made some banana bread last night if you would like that, or I have some cereal."

"Banana bread please!" She was already pulling it out before I said anything, she knew that was going to be my ultimate answer.

"Same here." My brother grumbled under his breath so where my mother had to ask what he said. Then we both hopped onto the wooden stools lined up against the counter. She placed the bread, which was on a white paper plate shaped like a square. I gobbled up the bread. The bread was quite dry and was very crunchy, I picked several nuts out of the bread and placed them on the paper plate and continued on. I turned to my brother, but he was already up throwing his plate into the trash bin.

"Dan Dan, can you help me, my calculator isn't working?"

"You're seven, why do you have a calculator in the first place?"

"Is that a yes or no?"

"Maybe later." I knew that meant no. I ran up behind him and tugged on his grey sleeping shirt, he turned around, and I could see the front of his shirt which said 'Cool kids never sleep'. I laughed when I saw it, because he never wanted to wake up. "What do you want, look, I need to go get ready."

"But Dan Dan I need it for a quiz today." He looked at me with disgust and turned to go back up stairs.

"Come on my little Smartie, you need to get dressed." My mother walked me upstairs to my bedroom. "So Smartie what do you want to wear today?" My mother scavenged through my closet and dresser looking for a cute outfit for school today.
