❝This feels like a different kind of hope❞
•"It's got to be some sort of shortage. Faulty wiring." Damon suggested and I huffed. Okay, before, I didn't believe in anyone else being here, however as I'm standing here, listening to a now annoying tune that hasn't played after all the four months I've been here, I know there's something up.
"Or a quarter was placed inside and boom, and working, functioned properly machine! Someone turned it on." I stated, my hands moving around.
"You know, I'm a little confused with all this misplaced hope. All right, let's just say there is someone here. How do you know where going to get out?" And that's what destroyed my hopes causing me to tune out again. Damon's done it before.
I look through the store window, before looking at all the old parked cars. Damon said this place was his hell. He wouldn't say how it was to me, but I didn't press on the topic. It seemed like it was sensitive or that Damon built up his walls again.
I walk down the lane of cars, soon seeing a specific car that caught my eye instantly, "Damon." I beckoned and he tears himself from his useless argument with Bonnie.
"What?" He asked, annoyed.
"Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe I called you over her to talk about what new color of nail polish I'm getting. Or rub in your face that there is hope." He looked at me confused as Bonnie strides over before I point to his car.
"My car." He said, shocked. "That's my car."

We stood in the parking lot for what felt like hours as Damon let his car roar. He said he enjoyed it since it was something different from the sounds of our voices. I rolled my eyes, sort of regretting on showing him the car. I suspected this would be the lighter to his fuel to make him now help us find who else is here.
Not toying with his car.
Out of boredom, I look back at the store only to see something move inside. I furrowed my eyebrows when I saw it move again and glance back at my argumentative friends, "I, uh, I'll be back." I said and Bonnie looked at me weirdly, "Uh, ice cream." I replied quickly without hesitation, before rushing away.
The bell of the supermarket rang quietly, Madonna playing softly in the background. "Hello?" A chill ran up my spine even though it shouldn't have. When I turn the corner another aisle, there was a loud booming noise causing my head to snap in that direction. Hesitantly, I went towards the noise.
I know, stupid. Incredibly stupid since when I got to the aisle, nothing was there. Literally nothing, except stocked up shelves. I huffed and ran my hand through my hair.
There's no one here.
There was no one here ever. The whole time.
"Rowan." Damon's voice echoed and I shook my head, walking to towards the alcohol aisle, where Damon obviously was. When I get to him, I see Bonnie isn't by him.
"Where's Bonnie? What did you do?" I asked as he grabbed a bottle of Bourbon.
"I'm not her caretaker, Ro. I don't know." Damon hissed. Of course their argument escalated, making her walk away.
"Damon, this is getting out of control. You guy really should make up because one day-" Damon walked up to me and put a finger against my lips, shushing me. I glared, but I see his really focused on the noise outside of our breathing. I focus too, hearing after a while, a crunching sound.
Damon backed away from me and walked towards where these beach umbrellas are. I follow along, hearing the crunching noise become louder. Damon, stopped walking and I did too when I saw a boy around my age sitting on a beach chair, eating a bag of pork rinds.
"Rough day, huh, Damon?" He spoke, munching on the pork rinds in his hand. I glance at Damon and see he held a confused look like me when we looked at the stranger in front of us. "Sorry, manners. I'm Kai!" The guy- Kai greeted, giving a smile. He looked at me, his smile growing wide, waving the pork rinds. "Nice to meet you, Rowan. Pork rind?"
We stood in complete shock. Or well, I did. I can't fathom on how I didn't believe Bonnie or myself for a split second when we thought there was someone here. Now, I'm standing in front a amazingly cute boy, which I obviously can't say aloud since Damon will give me a lecture, who's been here or god knows how long. This guy- Kai, is here for a reason. But it can't be bad... Right?
Kai stared at me as he munched on his snack and Damon glanced my way to see me avoiding everyone's eyes. "You're going to need to stop." Damon cringed and Kai hummed.
"You think this is annoying? Try listening to you and Bonnie bicker every five minutes, am I right?" Kai joked, looking at me. Damon turns my way also, but I stay quiet and put my hands in my pockets, rocking on my heels.
"So you've been following us?" Damon asked. Usually I would be the one to ask the questions or put in my opinion, but by the look on Damon's face, I kept my thoughts to myself.
"Of course I have. You three are the closet thing I have to a TV; you and Bonnie are the argumentative parents while the redhead beauty over there is the child who can't decide who she'll live with when they divorce." He joked, stuffing his face. Damon shot him a looked as Kai smirked at me, seeing as I held back a smile. "I mean you're no Bay Watch- do you remember Bay Watch?"
"No. I do not." Damon said, annoyed.
"You should. Do you like lifeguards? Like, hot ones?" I begin to space out the conversation, seeing that he was pulling away from our main topic.
"I'm sorry to cut off your really interesting story about women running in bathing suits, and this, in my case, and been a very stressful day. So let's get to the point-" I tried to say, but Damon cuts me off.
"We just need to know who your are, what you're doing here, and how it relates to me or I'm going rip your throat out." Damon said, his anger growing.
"Tempers going to get you in trouble, Damon. It's already driven Bonnie away how many times? Oh, oh, wait, I know. Thirteen." Kai smirked, "I'm shocked Rowan hasn't left you yet. I think she's the only person that can handle your temper." He looked my way and I fiddle with my belt loop.
"You think my temper is bad with Bonnie? I like her. You not so much. And Rowan.. Rowan is Rowan." Damon growled before speeding over to him and holding him up by his collar. Kai's bag of pork rinds dropped to the floor, spreading everywhere.
"Damon, stop. Let him go." I said, walking up to them. Damon ignored me like always, his eyes fixated on Kai.
"Okay, okay. Sorry." Kai quickly apologizes. "Seriously, I'm just kind of rusty on the face-to-face type human interactions." He added and Damon eyes him before dropping him back on the floor.
"Answers now." Damon demands.
"Please." I add, softly, and Kai hears me, smiling my way.
"Maybe you should have a drink." Kai suggested, his eyes on Damon. "That usually calms you down." Damon hummed, grabbing a bottle. Kai still has that smirk on his face and I wonder what he's up to. "Then it makes you angry, then sad, then calm again! It's a weird cycle, really. But look, if you want to know the reason I'm following you.." He trails as Damon takes a swig of Bourbon and then it clicks. Oh god. "It's because I want to kill you."
Damon quickly regurgitates the laced bourbon, coughing out what he could. I rush to his aid, but Kai pulled me back by waist and shoving me by the beach chairs, hitting my head slightly. Of course the cutest people are the most psychotic.
Why do I always fall for them?
