Chapter 21

As we all proceedinto the courthouse the next morning, my heart is beating out of mychest. I feel as if I am going to pass out. I have to testify against a monster in less than 20 minutes. My life is royally screwed up.

"Aiden Adams!"A man's deep voice reverberates off of the walls of the court houseloudly, making me jump in shock. I look up, finding a black manstanding in front of the court room doors with his arms crossed over his wide chest. I take a deep breath in, grabbing Caleb's hand as I do so.

So originally we were supposed to have court last week after the incident, but it took me a few days to heal enough to be able to leave the hospital. I'm still really sore, but at least I can walk now.

"You ready?" I look at Caleb with a smile, nodding before he leads us through the big white door. I gulp, the butterflies settling in. Caleb's mother walks by our side, leading us down an aisle to take a seat up front.I take a deep breath to try and contain myself.

"All rise for Judge Andrews." I look around the room to find a jury along withsome other people I didn't recognize. Everything starts and my dads lawyer states the case and their side of the story, which is nothing but crap.

Why is this all happening to me? Why now?

"Aiden Adams, please step forward." I stand up from my seatslowly and make my way to the stand. I take my seat, gulping anxiously. My dad's lawyer starts grilling me on questions, pissing me off as each one is thrown at me. This goes on for awhile before I finally get sick of it and lash out.

"Enough!" I slam my hands down on the wood in front of me. "None of these questions are even asking me the important information, like the fact that he beat me! I've been in the hospital twice now because of this man, and each time I have almost died." I turn to where my father is seated, handcuffed to the table.

"I hope you rot to death. I want nothing to do with you!" Hejumps in his seat, forcefully pushed down by the guard next to him ashe does so. He snarls at me harshly, trying to show me his best. Hedoesn't scare me anymore. I refuse to let him hurt me any longer.

The debate goes on a little longer before the judge finally makes adecision.

"I will be honest, I had my mind made up before I even set foot in this court room today. The jury doesn't even matter at this point. I have seen the photos and the evidence." The judge pauses to look at my father, scowling. "I sentence you, Rick Adams, to 20 years in prison, without parole." He pauses to look over at me. "As for you young man, I will happily sign those adoption papers." I grin widely, looking over at Caleb. He flashes me a smile, looking at me lovingly. Life really was gonna be okay now. Mute or not, my life would never be the same and I am happy to say that.

Sometimes life has to thrown you a curve ball for you to realize just how good you have it. Here's to a future of love andhappiness with the boy I adore. There's nothing better than that.

So sorry this took like 2 years! I honestly had completely forgotten about this story, and at this point, I have forgotten what it's all about. Hey, at least it's finished now! :)
