"Up and at 'em!" I heard Sam yell as he banged on my bedroom door. "you'll be late for school!"
I groaned and slowly rolled out of bed. I threw on an old band shirt and some faded blue jeans and walked down stairs to the kitchen.
"Good morning." my dad threw a couple pieces of toast at me and hurried me out the door.
I sauntered out to my baby and saw Sam already in the passenger seat practically bouncing with joy.
"What's got you all jittery? are you on speed?" I asked, starting the car and pulling out of the drive way.
He rolled his eyes, "it happens to be my first day of high school so can you just let me be happy?"
I pursed my lips, thinking, then shook my head, "nope. Doesn't sound like something I'd do, Sammy." I pulled into a parking space and ruffled his hair before getting out.
While I was walking to my first class I noticed a very bouncy blond coming up to me with a huge smile. I recognized her from a beach trip over the summer. Hayley, Hallie, Hannah. Something like that.
"Hey, Dean!" she greeted. Damn, she was way too happy. Maybe that's why I never bothered with a name.
"Hey...."
"Tracey." She prompted then continued rambling about something I didn't even bother pretending to listen to.
"Hey, Lisa, imma go. Catch you later." I said and walked the opposite way of her. She called her name after me but I ignored it and continued walking to class.
The next slightly-less-bouncy blond I saw walking towards me I wrapped in a huge bear hug.
My best friend, Jo.
"Hey, lil' one! how was your summer? enjoy your uncle's?" I finally set her back on her feet.
She rolled her eyes, "of coarse not. But how was yours? what'd you do without me?"
We laughed. "Oh the usual." I smirked.
She rolled her eyes again and laughed more, "you glad school's back in?" I gave her a weird look so she continued. "End of last year you complained about the lack of girlies and now you have a whole new batch of freshman!"
"Freshman aren't fun."
"I know, I know. Buuuuut! there is this really cute one who just moved here." I motioned for her to keep going. "Novak. I didn't catch her first name. She's short, we all know how you like short girls. But she's also got a big brother you have to worry about."
I rolled my eyes, "I can take him."
"I know but her dad is also a pastor. It'll be tough getting into those panties."
"But worth it, Jo. Could you imagine making her scream my name in the back I the Impala?!" I threw my head back and howled.
Jo punched my arm jokingly, "god why do I talk to you. A little feminist like me best friends with a gorgeous man who only treats girls as items. We're like a bad comic book."
We caught up on our summers for the next few minutes until we split ways to get to class.
I was the first one in class and the teacher--a short bald man that reminded me of Mr. PotatoHead--looked too happy to see me so a gave him my best don't-expect-me-to-do-shit grin and found a seat in the back.
Soon the bell rang and the class filled all except for the seat next to me. The teacher gave a lecture on how class would be run. A lecture I ignored.
I'm a junior in high school now and have not yet had a single girlfriend. Sure I had hooked up with tons of girls but none ever left a lasting impact on me. Of coarse that gave me quite a reputation but that's not what I wanted. I hate seeing all the couples around and knowing I never felt anything romantic towards a girl. Not that I could ever voice these feelings to anyone in fear of ruining my badass reputation.
Halfway through the class a short guy with dark hair came in and handed the teacher his schedule. "Novak." teach' said and I instantly paid more attention, remembering mine and Jo's conversation. "You can take the only empty seat. Next to Winchester."
I waved my hand and smirked but the kid just sat in the seat next to me.
"I hope you like who you are sat next to because they will be your lab partner until the end of the semester. So take the rest of class to get to know them." Mr. PotatoHead said.
I turned to Novak who just looked at me shyly. "I'm Dean."
"Castiel. My family just moved to town." he offered.
"So I've heard. Where ya from?"
"Indiana. My dad preached at a tiny church in town there until he got the job out here. Bigger church, better pay." he didn't seem very happy as he said this. I wonder what would be so bad about it.
"Well welcome to California, Cas."
"It's Castiel." He finally made eye contact with me. He had the most amazing blue eyes that hit me like a freight train and I lost my voice for the next few moments. No girl has ever made me feel this way... what is happening?
"Hello? earth to Dean?" Castiel waved a hand in front of my face. "I asked if you had a girlfriend."
I shook my head to clear it. "No, no. I'm not big on dating. you?"
He simply shook his head. For some reason this made me very happy. What was going on with me? I've been straight my entire life and now I'm happy this boy with gorgeous eyes doesn't have a girlfriend? it has to be completely normal. It has absolutely nothing to do with any romantic feelings.
Right?
