* Sarah was working evening shift that day, and it was so busy. Usually it’s not that busy but because of an emergency thing, everyone was busy. Sarah checking on her patients and Sarah attend them friendly, that’s why everybody likes her and feel comfortable with her. Even doctors and other staff also likes to work with her because she always energetic in work and do the best in her every duty.
* Sarah come in to the patient room and greets him. The patient is old and he had been 2 months in that hospital.
Sarah: Good evening Mr Carl. How you doing today? (Attend him friendly and do observation on him).
Mr Carl: Hi miss beautiful. As usual, there’s good and bad time. (Smile)
Sarah: (Smile) did you take your medicine today?
Mr Carl: Yes. (Cough a little)
Sarah: (Look at Mr Carl) tell me how you feel right now. (Hold Mr Carl hand)
Mr Carl: (Sigh) I don’t know how long I able to bear this disease. I’m afraid I can’t see you tomorrow.
* Sarah feels touch and pity to hear Mr Carl saying. Mr Carl is actually closer with Sarah, and he already assumes Sarah as his own daughter. And Sarah feels the same too. Last two month from the day Mr Carl admitted to the ward, Sarah was the first person to take care of him, before this Mr Carl unable to do his normal routine, Sarah is the one who always give support to Mr Carl until now. But last week Mr Carl got emergency situation from his heart complication, and now he just able to lying down on the bed.
Sarah: Uncle, you shouldn’t say that. I know you strong enough to face all this.
Mr Carl: (Smile) until now you still call me uncle, even I ask you to call me daddy.
* Sarah eyes start to tears. When she with Mr Carl, he reminded her to her family, especially her father, because she too close with her father. It’s not that she don’t want to call Mr Carl ‘daddy’, but it because she don’t want to feel lost, that why she refuse to call Mr Carl ‘daddy’.
Mr Carl: I really miss my daughter, whenever I see you, I saw my daughter.
Sarah: Uncle, you should rest.
* Sarah try to avoid that conversation because she almost cry and she fill up the observation in the patient fail. While Mr Carl coughs, Sarah takes water and give to him.
* Suddenly one doctor comes in the room.
Dr Danny: Hi. So you’re here Sarah.
Sarah: Yeah, why?
Dr Danny: Nothing. Like always you give this patient a priority. (Smile and check the fail)
* Sarah just smiles and continues her works.
Dr Danny: So Mr Carl. How you doing?
* In time Mr Carl wants to answer the doctor, he suddenly coughs several times and it seems a little worst. Sarah and doctor quickly check on him, and suddenly he having a shortness of breath.
Sarah: Mr Carl, are you okay? Mr Carl?
* Mr Carl becomes more horrible in his breathing situation.
Dr Danny: Sarah, emergency!
* Sarah quickly push emergency button and she come near to Mr Carl. In time two nurses and a sister come in the room along with emergency trolley. All of them quickly treat the patient while Sarah doing her works with crying. Suddenly Mr Carl takes off the mask breather and hold Sarah hand. Sarah looks at him with crying.
Mr Carl: Don’t cry beautiful. You’re my adorable child, and now maybe it is the time for me to meet my family.
Sarah: No, no. Dad, please don’t leave me. (Crying)
Mr Carl: Finally you called me dad after a long time I need to hear it.
* Mr Carl condition become worst and everything turns to uncontrollable.
Mr Carl: Thank you.
* Soon after he said that, he is gone. Everyone there feels disappointed and sad, moreover Sarah. She’s the one who feels lost and cry so hard, while sister calm her.
* Sarah finish shift and she had a sit in the staff room while remembering her memories with Mr Carl.
Dr Danny: Hey. (Sit beside her)
* Sarah just smiles weak and exhale hard breathe.
Dr Danny: Everyone will face the death line. Be patient.
* Sarah just nodding and wipe her tears.
Sarah: Well doctor, I have to go. (Raise and take her things)
Dr Danny: Walk with me.
* Sarah just smiles and they together walk out from the hospital, on their near to the lobby, Sarah saw Evan was waiting her at the outside.
Dr Danny: Okay then, Take care Sarah. (Smiles)
Sarah: Thanks. See you.
* And the doctor walk away and Sarah walk near to Evan who was watching her from the outside.
* As Sarah near him, Evan smiles and kisses her forehead.
Evan: Who’s that?
Sarah: Oh, doctor in my ward. (Look weak)
Evan: You okay? (Feel worried)
* Sarah tears suddenly falls down and Evan hugs her.
Evan: Hey, what’s wrong baby?
* Sarah just crying and hugs Evan tightly.
* They arrived home and Sarah sits on a sofa, while Evan goes to the kitchen to take water and give it to Sarah.
Sarah: Thanks. (Smile weak)
Evan: You don’t want to share about it? (Look at Sarah)
Sarah: I’m sorry; I just can’t bear to feel sad.
Evan: And I don’t like to see you like this. This is not you. What actually happen baby?
Sarah: My favourite patient died today. (And she tells Evan everything about the patient and his disease until his last breath while crying)
Evan: I’m sorry. (Wipe Sarah tears and hugs her)
Sarah: I didn’t even think he will leave me that fast.
Evan: Everyone will die; we just don’t know how and when it happens.
* Sarah just stays quiet and hugs Evan until she falls asleep in his hug.
