Once I arrive home, I'm welcomed to shoes scattered, backpacks in the middle of the walkway, and laughter in the kitchen. Wow. I suspect mom and dad are at work as I make my way into the kitchen seeing Mark watch Jaylen cook.
"Spells burnt." I smirk and lean against the counter.
"Like you can cook." She shoots back with much sass which makes me purr and tilt my head, laughing.
"How was your first day being a sophomore?" I coo, looking at myself in the mirror.
My eyeliner is smudged but I could care less. I swipe underneath my eyes and reapply and fresh set of liquid liner. Not digging the way I look at all, but it'll have to do. I sigh and take a seat, Mark crawling on the table and sitting in front of me. The little six year old sits cross legged and pets my hair. I cant help but find myself giggle and pull him into my arms. The age difference doesn't really bother me, no. But I just worry the day me and Jaylen move out and he's stuck with my parents.
"What're you cookin anyway, Jay?" I murmur as Mark begins to slide off my lap and onto the couch where sponge bobs voice sounded off.
"Speghetti, Theresa told me her and the girls would be coming soon, so I figured I would cook for our friends." She states casually, working away at the pot.
I love how she's friends with my friends. Normally older siblings would be annoyed that their little sibling is friends with theirs. But its not like that with me and Jaylen. My friends are hers and her friends are annoying. I smile to myself and tie my hair up in a bun.
"Oh, how lovely." I state and close my eyes for a minute before the door bell rings.
"Gonna get it?" Jaylen murmurs, looking back at me.
"Yeah yeah, dont burn the noodles." I groan and slide off my seat, jogging to the door with Mark a few steps behind me.
As I get to the door I can already hear the girls laughing and talking. I hear them curse and call my name. Telling me to hurry up and I smirk. I lean against the door and fumble with the door, peering through the peephole. Anne glares and bangs on the door.
"Stop playin around fool!" I hear Cece scream and Join Anne.
I burst out laughing and open the door in a polite manner, moving Mark and I out of the way for them to shuffle in. All six of them remove their shoes and set their bags and backpacks down. Moments later they hug me. And as usual, Bella goes straight for Mark and they negin their little game of chase around the kitchen. I hear a shriek come from the kitchen and I already suspect that Mark has ran under Jaylen's legs and so did Bella. I cackle and jump on Anne's back and she doesn't seem surprised at all.
"It's been a while since i've last stepped foot in this house." Theresa says quietly and smiles at me.
"Yeah... I know." I reply, resting my chin on Anne's head.
We all get comfortable with each other, stuffing out faces with speghetti. Gossip a little here and there. I chuckle a bit and enthuse about how we are already gossiping on the first day of school yet none of us seem to mind. We've mostly been talking about how much Marissa grinds our gears but we dont let that ruin our time together.
We've somehow managed to make our way to my room, Mark already sound asleep in my room and we're just piled up on my bed. Legs on legs, head on ass. Just like we always used to do. Only now we're just relaxing in silence. Not awkward silence, no. But comfortable silence, something that I haven't had in a long time.
"You know what we should do?" Rosalyn finally decides to break the scilence and looks at all of us.
"What should we do?" Bella asks as everyones head turns to look at one another.
"Lets do things we shouldn't do..." She says lowly with a devious smirk and Cece's face lights up.
"Yes!" She exclaims and sits up, sitting crossed legged.
"What do mean by bag things?" Theresa asks and tilts her head.
I just stay quiet and prop myself up, watching this all go down. I look down at Anne and Valery lying down on my legs, looking at them to see if they would say anything and they just laugh and shake their head. Jaylen is sprawled on top of Cece and Rosalyn, listening intently and looks at everyone. Asking someone to carry on the conversation.
"Like guns, blood, stealing, robbing, etc...?" I finally say and purse my lips together.
I find Rosalyn nodding and looking at me with an excited expression.
"Live fast and die hard!' She smirks and runs her fingers through her hair.
"Dude, my dad's a cop." I chuckle and shake my head yet I see her face is dully serious and Anne sits up this time.
"It's the beginning of the year though." Anne reminds us and rests her head on my shoulder.
"And how would we even accomplish something like this?" Valery says warily, still laying on my lap.
"Let me think that through." Theresa mumurs confidently and smirks.
Jaylen sits up and looks at all of us bewildered, her mouth slightly open. I feel the same, but I hide that and nudge Jaylen with my foot, as if telling her to say something. But all that comes from her mouth is just laughter.
"You guys can't be serious." Jaylen chuckles and throws her head back.
Rosalyn turns around and looks Jaylen dead in the eyes.
"Im serious."
I must say, this does actually sound thrilling. Not like it would actually happen anyway and I know when Rosalyn jokes around. This is definitely one of the times she's joking around and I hit her with a pillow.
"Shut up and keep your dreams to yourself." I huff and earn a few laughs from everyone.
Once everyone has left, me and Jaylen start to clean up our mess. I hardly hear Jaylen singing since I am deep in thought. Thinking about it, actually thinking. And when I think About it, it sends sgivers up and down my spine. It indeed sounds thrilling as hell, but the consequenses of the outcome. That's what I have to think about. But then again, Theresa did say that she would think of something. And when she does, everything always works out. I sigh and put all the plates in the sink and sit down on the couch.
"You think Rosalyn was serious?" Jaylen asks and sits beside me with a bowl of popcorn.
"Dunno, I dont think she was." I reply, flipping through channels and decide to watch American Horror Story.
I reach for the bowl of popcorn and grab a handful, stuffing it my mouth.
"I think she was being serious, Maya." Jaylen murmurs and put the bowl in between us, hugging a pillow.
I love me and my sisters relationship. We do fight, often. But we always get passed it and our relationship always seems to grown stronger. I nudge her playfully and sink into the couch.
"Nah, the idea seems too good to be-" I murmur and cut myself off short to hear loud banging on the door and my eyes immediately dart to Jaylen.
"Mom and dad dont get home till later." Jaylen whispers and the banging seems to grow louder my the minute and i flinch.
