You were single. Painfully single, because your best friend of two years, Jeon Jungkook, that you were helplessly falling for, finally got himself a girlfriend.

You couldn't believe it at first, how he was so excited to tell you about his new girl and how you were so heart broken that day. You knew you had it all coming, sooner or later, you know he'll get himself a girlfriend (or a boyfriend, whichever way he swings). You knew how much good-looking and attractive and how sweet he can be, so it's never new to anyone if he can get a girlfriend in a blink of an eye. And somehow, deep inside you knew that you'll never be that 'lucky girl', because after all, you were just his best friend.

You knew you loved him all along, you were just too afraid to admit it to him. Or maybe because you were waiting for him to admit it to you. You were so stuck with the idea that when you label someone as a 'best friend', you'll never try something romantic with him or her, even though that's the exact opposite of your situation with Jungkook. You'd smack yourself in the head sometimes for not making a move on Jungkook, for not giving slight hints that you actually like him, for shrugging off his flirty remarks with you (even though you were clearly enjoying it) before, for not reciprocating all the sweetness that he used to show you, for realizing too late that you were in love with him all along.

Now it all sank to you, as you sit across him at a table for two in the cafeteria, listening to him talk to his girlfriend on the phone, while you're just boringly munching on an equally boring sandwich. You're then reminded of how much lonely and single you are whenever he smiles halfway through their conversation, and the moment you realize that prom is fast approaching and no one asked you out to be their date yet, didn't help at all. You used to not worry about a prom date when Jungkook was single, but since that's not the case anymore, you were no longer so sure.

You stop staring at him as soon as he says 'i love you' and 'goodbye' to his girlfriend, and he wears that same frown on his face every time he ends their call.

"Why the face?" you ask.

"She didn't say it back, again." he replies and you knew exactly what he meant.

His girlfriend never says 'i love you' or 'i love you too' to him, and it honestly worried you that his girlfriend never really loved him and only used him for good sex. Though maybe a teeny tiny bit of you is positive that they'll break up soon, especially since it has only been a two weeks since they started their relationship and it's already not working that much out. Nonetheless, you were worried about your best friend.

"Y/N, am I not a good boyfriend? Am I not lovable?" Jungkook asked and paused to look at you. You shrug off the fact that you're stomach fluttered a little at what he just asked.

Not a good boyfriend? Not lovable? Your girlfriend made you feel like that? Jungkook, honestly you're the most precious human being that has ever set foot on this planet. You deserve all the love and the banana milks in the world. You knew your answer, but you also knew better than to make yourself look like a fool. So you breathed in,

and asked, "I know I'm not supposed to be the one to judge, but Jungkook, are you really sure about her?" you asked, and this time, he went silent.

"Maybe she's just moody today. Let's go, we'll be late for class," he tries to shrug off. Why does he always try to avoid conversations like these? You wanted to speak up, scold him until he realizes that he obviously deserves so much better, but the moment that he stood up from his chair, you realized that he was not in the mood for an angry Y/N.

"She's always moody," you mutter under your breath as you stoop up too, ready to go to your next class.

As soon as the last subject for the day is dismissed, Jungkook comes to your sight as he leans in your classroom's door frame ever so casually, looking fine as hell. You had to refrain from throwing yourself at him and give him the biggest hug, like you always did when he was single, at the end of a stressful day at school. As soon as you walk up to him, you tell him to go home because you still had a school project to finish. Even though he insists to help you with your project, you still decline because you know that whenever he's around, he'll just make it hard for you to follow your mental note to 'move on'.

When he finally decides to leave, you then start on working on your project. It took you an hour or two to almost finish, until the hallways in your school went silent and you think that you were the only one left. A knock on the door then breaks your concentration, making you almost jump in your seat, until a Jimin head pops into your view.

"H-hi Y/N, did I interrupt something?" Jimin asks hesitantly, with his head still popped at the door.

"You almost scared the shit out of me", you sigh in relief, "no Jimin, I was just about to finish this project".

When he's still standing by the door frame, you tell him, "Please come in, I don't bite," and you smile at him as he allows himself to walk close to you, still working at your table as you try to finish up your project as soon as possible. As you were working, he just stares at your face for what felt like 10 minutes (and you were sure you caught him), until he finally decides to speak up and have a casual talk with you. He suddenly asks this one question that made you stop working and made him gulp nervously.

"D-do you have a date for prom yet?" he asked, this time not looking at you but at your hand that suddenly stopped fumbling with the project.

"N-no," you say looking at him, and you caught his face light up that it almost made you blush, "Why?"

"Do you, perhaps, wanna go to the prom with me?" and you swore he looked so cute with that hesitant smile in his face. He also surprised you with a boquet of roses in one hand that you figured was hidden secretly behind his back.

"Jimin," you said awkwardly but still managed to smile, "that's so sweet."

"So is that a yes?"

And then you thought about it. Should you say yes? Does Jungkook even have a date? Will Jungkook even ask you out for prom like last year? He probably won't, he has a girlfriend now, for fucks sake. After all, you didn't have a prom date yet, and you didn't want to waste a night with such a cute boy like Jimin.

"Yes, I'd love to go to the prom with you."
