The school bell rings signalling the end of another boring school day. I haul my backpack over my shoulder and head towards the door of my classroom. "And where do you think you're going ? You have detention young man." Mr Holbrooke booms at me. Oh detention.... The atrocious tale of teacher holding their students hostage for a numerous amount of minutes. I never understood how they found that acceptable? " Oh yeah about that....."
Deliberately, I hold my sentence to make Mr Holbrooke think I have some great excuse. Secretly I slowly edge closer and closer to the exit, annnnnd....NOW! I swing open the door and it slams the wall, my legs are a get away car, pushing each muscle in my body to its absolute limit by sprinting from hallway to hallway.
" GET BACK HERE!" I turn and see Mr Holbrooke covered head to toe in sweat, face as red a ripened tomato and his facial expression that could turn the most joyful person into a broken scared soul. That's a good thing about most English teachers in my school, they're mostly all horrendously out of shape. I could never guess why? ( I can). The amount of English teachers if seen eating cups of chicken soup and not to mention their office; where they traverse and swap all sorts of junk. Just the other morning I see Mr Hamilton wolfing down three big Mac's from McDonald's! I take a quick glace behind me and see that I've lost Mr Holbrooke. Whilst I'm not looking where I'm going I bump into someone. " dammit watch it." A girls voice says to me.
" sorry...Evelyn?" I say remembering the look of the girl.
" oh Enrico, just watch where you going next time. " I rush off without saying another word. Finally, I see the school gates and... My dads car? Dammit.... It's my appointment today. As much as I want to try and avoid it, its pretty inevitable now. With my back slouching, I stagger towards the car door. *click* I open the door and get inside. I am greeted by my dads warm smile. " hiya son.. How was your day?" He asks putting the key in the ignition and starting up the car.
" fine." I respond blankly. There's total silence in the car until my dad breaks it. " Dr Guchu called today, he said he's excited to see if you've made any improvements." He informs me.
I hate these appointments with a passion, I just get indirectly told I'm sick in the head and am supplied with more drugs which will make me 'better'.I rest my head in my hand and stare out of the car window. Can't I just leave this town and go some place new? It angers me seeing the same things day, after day, after day: the half dead trees, the same faces, the long crackling roads with life starting to sprout out of them.
I've spent my whole life in this town... I know every spot on it's map and most people that inhabit it; yet...I have no clue what it's all about.
Abruptly, the car comes to a halt, I snap out of my thoughts and realise we've arrived. That was quick.
Psychiatrists lair, is what I like to call this place, they're all lurking around inside waiting for their next victim to rip apart and examine. I know it's a hospital and most people in there are kind and always willing to make you smile, it's just I don't like hospitals.I get out of the car and stretch my arms up, my dad and I walk towards the entrance of the hospital, the motion sense doors open and we both walk inside. My dad goes over to the front desk and starts talking with the lady there. It feels like forever since I've stepped foot in a hospital.
My dad comes back and ushers me towards the waiting room. " Dr Guchu is with a patient at the moment so we'll just have to wait a bit." My dad tells me. I take a seat on the uncomfortably padded blue chairs in the waiting room. The waiting room was still and quiet except for the hypnotic tick of the old plastic clock hanging on the wall. A smell evoking images of latex gloves and sterilizers hung in the air, as the doctors worked behind the closed doors. The little boy across the room fidgeted uncontrollably while his mother chose to ignore it. Her face was drawn and pale. Her hands were placed on top of her lap and she wrung them continuously. She wore baggy red patterned trousers, a multicoloured striped jumper and on her head was a faded red bandana, firmly sealed over a mass of scruffy brown curls. " Mr Perkins! " was called out.
I get up and so does my dad, we walk down the hallways to Dr Guchu's room. *knock knock* we open the door and I am greeted by a wide smile coming from Dr Guchu.
" ah Enrico it's great to see you, please take a seat or lie down on the bed, which ever suits you." He tells me. I sit down. He rummages through a filing cabinet and grabs my files.
" good Now let's start with some questions." H grabs a jet black fountain pen and a note book.
" have you noticed yourself being more upset during the past weeks ? " he asks.
"Yeah." I reply.
He scribbles things down.
" has this caused you to feel like the worlds against you in a sort of way?" I nod.
He walks over to my dad and whispers something in his ear, my dad walks out of the room. What the?
" okay has this form of... Depression caused you to spiral into taking any drugs?" He asks.
" no it hasn't, don't try and think that I may be taking non- prescription drugs. " he smiles.
" don't get so hostile it's just a simple question Enrico." He assures me.
" now how has it been with out your mother?" My heart stops...why would he ask that?! I take a deep breath in and out. " I don't want to talk about it." I say through gritted teeth.
" I want you to talk about it though, I am simply someone you can trust and convey all your emotions too...I am here to help."
" I said I don't want to talk about it, just drop the subject okay." I say getting annoyed.
" fine... So, your mother was she someone you looked up to?" He asks. Does this guy not know when to stop!
" I'm serious, stop asking questions about my mom, I don't want to answer to any of them." He scribbles more notes down.
" I'm just going to take your blood pressure now and prescribe some new medicine for you."He takes my blood pressure and give me new medicine.
" I'll be seeing you once a week Enrico, I want you to in the time you don't see me, work on trying to open up note to society, it would really help." He smiles and I walk out of his office.
I see my dad waiting patiently outside. " let's hurry up and get home." I say.An: a new chapter after many weeks of waiting, thanks for all the readers on my story!
