(Written by Sofia)
When she was born a girl
She wasn't told that
Her dreams would be limited
She wasn't told that
Her voice would grow silent
She wasn't told that
Her laughter would become humorless
When she was born a girl
She wasn't warned of
The men who would catcall her
She wasn't warned of
Dark allies with lurking strangers
She wasn't warned that
Her screams of help would be ignored
When she was born a girl
She wasn't taught how to
Dumb herself down
She wasn't taught how to
Pick between slutty and prudish
She wasn't taught how to
Carve her face with cosmetics to make her "pretty"
No
When she was born a girl
The nurse smiled
Her mother laughed with relief
Her father stroked her head
No one told her, warned her, taught her
What it meant to be born a girl
She learned herself
From living in a world full of humans
But you would think
From how perfectly she plays her part
She was born with the knowledge
To never believe in herself
