I woke up confused before remembering where I was. Collin's house. I got to work putting my things away. My stomach growled and I realized I hadn't eaten anything all day. I didn't want to bother Collin but I didn't want to help myself either so I sat and tried to ignore it. I had a small tv in my room so I turned it on and tried to relax.
My stomach let out another rumble and I sighed. In my old pack I would get in trouble for helping myself to food without asking so I assumed the same rules would apply here. The door to my room swung open causing me to jump. I didn't hear him coming. I don't hear anything coming anymore.
"If your hungry, you can get food. The kitchen is downstairs." I just stare at Collin with what I imagine is a dumb look on my face. He sighs impatiently. "I can hear your stomach growling from my office and it's distracting. Go downstairs and get some food." "Oh." Is all I say before sliding past him and scurrying to the kitchen.
I fix myself a slice of bread and some chicken, making sure not to take too much food. Collin hasn't been too unkind but I don't want to push my luck. I scurry back to my room and sit cross legged watching the small tv on the dresser.
I soon grew bored with the tv and found myself wandering the pack grounds. I walked for a while until I came to the training area, a large open field where I saw people training in human form and wolf form. I sat and watched until a guy walked over to me.
"Would you care to join?" He asked and held a hand out to me. "Am I allowed?" I asked. He laughs lightly. "Come on." He tugs me to my feet and gets into fighting stance. I mimic his stance and put my hands up, I decide not to tell him about my whole lack of a wolf thing. I need to know how to defend myself like this and I'll never know if my opponent takes it easy.
He swings first and I swiftly dodge it. "What's your name?" I ask. "I'm Jasper." This time I swing first and he grabs my fist and pulls me down. I land on my elbows and push myself back up. "I'm Reina." He swings and I dodge, but not quickly enough. His punch catches my left shoulder and I stumble backwards for a few steps.
"You're not a very good fighter you know." I huff in response. We go at it for a while. Jasper starts to turn his back so I charge at him, hoping to use my full weight to knock him down. He's faster than me and ends up flipping me over his shoulder. His strength sends me flying a little ways. I land on a rock that stabs into my rib cage. I let out a scream of pain.
Jasper runs over quickly. "Crap. Reina it's ok, it will heal quickly." I roll onto my back. It's hurts so bad. Way worse than any injuries hurt when I had my wolf. I think I might have broken a rib. Jasper reaches out to grab my arm and tries to pull me up, the motion of sitting up causes pain to shoot through my side. I wince and let out a small cry.
"I'm so sorry Reina. It's gonna start healing soon and the pain will go away."
"No it won't." I look past Jasper's shoulder to see an angry looking Collin approaching. He stoops down and puts a hand on my shoulder, not taking his eyes of Jasper the whole time. I sigh in relief. Collin's touch makes some of the pain go away. The power of the mate bond.
"You idiot. Could you not see that she's human? You might have broken one of her ribs, do you know how long it will take her to heal from that?" Collin goes on scolding Jasper, his voice getting more forceful with each word. His hand never leaves my shoulder and his touch remains gentile.
I interrupt his lecture. "How did you know?" I ask. Collin looks at me for the first time. His eyes slowly fade from black to green. "I felt a pin prick in my side and I realized you weren't home. I didn't take me long to find you." Mates can feel each other's pain so the pin prick must have been my impact on the rock.
"Wait, are you mates? You're the Luna?" Jasper's eyes go wide and he quickly backs away. I laugh weekly only to wince in pain. Collin scoops me up and starts walking. Away leaving everyone watching behind him. "I'm sorry." I say. "I have a few things I need to discuss with you but it can wait until we get you to a doctor."
I don't say anything else. I just embrace the silence and the gentile sway of being carried.
