Chapter 14 - Light

"SUDDENLY, SHE REALIZED THAT WHAT SHE WAS REGRETTING WASN'T THE PAST, BUT THE LOST FUTURE. NOT WHAT HAD BEEN, BUT WHAT NO LONGER COULD BE."
When we arrived back at the manor, most of the team took the zeta-tube in the Bat-Cave back to their proper cities, Dick taking it to Blüdhaven as well. Wally was last, slowly placing Central Cities coordinates in before turning to me.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked hopefully, like I had a choice to say no to going to the cave.
"Yeah. We can talk about... things, then."
With that assurance, Wally stepped through. Because all of his friends were gone, Tim settled at the computer, starting work on a new drug trafficking case even though it was well past midnight.
"Are you going to bed soon?" I leaned on the back of his chair, watching the investigation over his shoulder.
"Yeah..." It was obviously an automatic answer based on his tone. Rolling my eyes, I pressed harder.
"You have training with the team tomorrow, you shouldn't push yourself like this. You need sleep."
"I'll just make a Death Coffee in the morning," Tim dismissed me with a wave of his hand.
Frowning, I eyed the floor around the computer, "So... is all the stuff on the computer backed up?"
"Absolutely. We'd be stupid not to protect it on all fronts."
Moving from behind the chair, I followed a cord to the nearest outlet, picking it up, "You say that, but you're stupid enough to have a computer that needs to be plugged in."
Tugging on the cord, I unplugged it and shut off the computer consequently. Tim gasped it horror, turning to me with murder in his eyes. Shrugging, I swung the limp cord around the air.
"You need to sleep Tim."
"I'll sleep when I'm dead," he screeched before charging.
Taking a wide step to the side, I narrowly avoided his attempted tackle. Each of us maneuvered around the other in our attempts to maintain control of the computer power cord. Finally, after indulging in his desperation for nothing short of ten minutes, I swung my hand up, enveloping him in darkness up to his shoulders. While my inhibitor bracelet was dicey at best when deciding when I could and couldn't use my powers, it was a rare time when it's timing was perfect.
"That's cheating!" He cried, struggling in vain.
"Say what you want, kid, you're going to go to bed."
