"Yo whats good ma," the same group of boys from when she first moved in called after her. She kept down the dim hallway even with the bad feeling she had. The more she tried to avoid the boys the more vile their words got. She picked up her pace and before she knew it she was in a full on chase. The boys were very persistent with getting her attention while she only wanted to go home.
She was right by her house door but someone grabbed her by her forearm pulling her into a dark hall way. The figure was silent putting a cold finger to Cassie's lips. A faint light hit the figure showing his starter dreads and light brown skin.
"Ok they are gone,"the guy said she nodded her head and went home without a word. She walked to her door before heading back to the boy who saved her.
"Im Cassie," She extended her hand to him. He smiled at her then shook it.
"Just call me Steez," She smiled at him.
She looked over at his facial hair covered face and low eyes (he must be high she thought). He was kinda handsome but in a weird way. He could tell she was peeping him and he was kinda doing the same.
"Well let me be on my way," she laughed so did he. She went back to her apartment in silence. Loneliness over came her when she walked through.
Ring Ring
"Hello," cassie answered without checking who it was,"
"Hi Cassandra," his deep voice rang through the phone.
"Hi Ryan," She rolled her eyes. Her hate for him was unexplainable.
"I heard you were in town," she nodded as of he could see.
"Lets hang out sometime," he said in a more begging tone.
"Sure," he laughed at her bland response.
"Cool talk to later," she replied to him with a simple yup then hanged up.
Cassie took her weed box from on top of her coffee table and rolled a well needed blunt. She looked out her window at the fire escape. She sat on it feeling calm and cold.
Cassie sat there looking at the pavement below. Wondering what it will feel like to just flop to her death. Her body shook at the idea.
Once she got up from, where she sat and looked over the ledge. Taking a long breath to stop the spinning of her visual world . With opened arms she let the cold air hit her before she tried to jumped.
"Wah yuh a duh," said a thick woman with soft mocha skin. Her accent was so beautiful the way it rolled off her tongue with such grace. Cassie noted herself to ask her where she was from.
"Im sorry say that again," the lady laughed a bit then exhaled.
"What are you doing," Cassie shrugged not knowing what she was doing. The lady grabbed Cassie into her clean warm apartment. The lady gave her some tea before sitting down across from Cassie.
The silence made Cassie want to burst into a fit of laughter for some reason.
"Im Mama Scott," she said out of no where,"Everyone on the block knows me."
"Cassie," she said before taking a long sip of her tea. Cassie felt awkward being in a complete strangers house.
"Ok Wah Yuh job yuh ah guh ," Cassie tried to translate it in her head as to what she just said.
"Yea," Cassie saw the look of confusion on the woman's thick face and knew she messed up. The woman parted her lips before she was stopped by the front door opening fast.
"Wah wrang," she said to the not present figure. Cassie shifted a little not wanting to meet no one else.
"Lorraine tried to say I was hugged up on some girl today," the familiar voice echoed in Cassie's ear making her jump up. Cassie excused herself then made a beeline to the bathroom.
Once inside she tried to figure out where to go. She looked out the window thinking this isn't a far jump. She believed she would be able to some how fly over all of the people to a place where she felt needed. The window was going to be a tight squeeze but she will manage to make it out. As she was about to kick the screen out the voice practically screamed Hurry.
She backed away from the window with her arms in the air. The door swung opened showing Joey at the other side. Cassie was nervous but more so embarrassed he saw her like this. She looked at him for a minute then walked past him.
Joey looked at her questioning what got into her and how did she get in. He turned around to see his mom sipping her tea not trying to pay attention to either of them. Joey walked over to her and sat down.
"Joey ah yuh ah guh wit her back tuh ah place," He nodded then motioned for her to walk back with him. Cassie followed behind him.
"Dont leave tonight or any night by yourself," she nodded at Joey's advice. He watched her get back in then went home.
"So I know who left the blunts," she said taking a sip from her tea.
"Coo," Joey shrugged.
"Joey wah yuh ah mad fer," Joey shrugged.
"I heard that man is in town," he shrugged.
"What man," she said with a hint of excitement in her voice."The dead beat," he said flatly.
"Oh," she mumbled before quickly getting up to clean.
"He is coming back huh," she looked at Joey then proceeded to clean up.
"Ill take that as a yes," he said as he was walking back to his room in silence.
"He is coming back Joey but this time will be different," she walked into his room,"He said he left that woman and he will be back," Joey looked at his mom knowing she didn't believe in her own lie.
"Ok," was the only response he had. His mom looked at him over then slowly left. He just shrugged (her problem he thought)
