The wooden platform swayed. It was clearly in peril of toppling. Trevi looked to Matthew and then to Shawn. Ross stood frozen near the center. Joe was looking as if he might throw up. The bridge that had taken them there had dropped into the water far below. On the rock-face, parallel to the platform, was a ledge a few feet wide that went back into a cave. It was maybe  six feet away, too far to safely jump to. Trevi stared fixedly at it. If only they could get closer.

"What are we going to do?" Matthew asked.

Trevi took a tentative step across the platform in the direction of the ledge. It swayed where she placed her weight.

"We'll have to jump, one at a time," Trevi said.

"What? Are you crazy?" Ross asked.

"Probably," said Trevi, "But it might work."

"Might?" asked Matthew, incredulous.

"Do you have a better idea?" retorted Trevi.

Shawn stepped in. "Explain your plan," he said.

"The platform moves with our weight," Trevi began, "if we can get it to rock toward the ledge each of us can jump to safety. We'll have to go one at a time so it doesn't collapse."

"It's worth a shot. What other choice do we have? I'm in," chimed Shawn.

"One person should get ready to jump while the other rocks the platform," said Matthew.
