Brielle's character was hard to find a good representation with black hair, hazel eyes, olive skin, and freckles, so I have a mixture of people that I thought had her qualities. I believe the top right is the closest for how her face would look, left two are closest for her eyes and hair, and the bottom right is Holland Roden, who I think is gorgeous<3 and would be Brielle if she had black hair and darker skin.:) if you know of a perfect Brielle just let me know!
----------------------------------------The rest of the time Brielle had spent in the room Avery explained exactly what the choice was. It had been decided-by who knows- that the only way to make up for the pain she had caused so many people was for her to spend the afterlife mending others' broken hearts. She would do what Avery called 'Cupid's dirty work'. Everyday Brielle would receive orders to find someway to fix a hopelessly broken heart. It was a tiring job especially when things weren't always so clear, but so far she hadn't failed once.
Almost a century had past since Brielle had died in 1912, and the world had changed into an even more horrible place. The once strong sense of self Brielle had had faded, and even though she actually didn't have one, her heart had weakened. Basically afterlife sucked.
Brielle sat down on the pier as her mind came back from the memories of the distant past. The waves moved in causing a breeze to gently whip her hair around. The ocean was so beautiful to her, but the world was stained in red. To Brielle, life was meaningless. Her chest began to ache and depression clouded her thoughts. If she didn't already know that it wouldn't have an effect, she might have walked straight into the water and let it take her away.
Most of the helplessness she felt came from the hearts she had broken. As part of Brielle's punishment, she had to agree to live with the pain her actions had inflicted on others. She understood now how a man had turned into a monster, but the worst pain she felt came from after Brielle had died. Tears stung as she remembered the days she had been stupid enough to start to fall in love. Brielle's whole world fell apart on a beach similar to this one.
Zane had been a mistake. A disastrously wonderful mistake, but a mistake all the same. Brielle had loved everything about him. His smile, his voice, and how he stood out from everyone else. Catching her eye had been his worst mistake. She knew it was doomed from the very start, but he had already made her fall. Despite her past, Brielle fell in love. She forgot about everything and began to think she could finally be happy. But she was completely wrong. A dark cloud moved into view making Brielle think back to that time.
She had woke up with a sudden terror in her chest, and instantly knew. It seemed like her legs were going to collapse as she ran down the stairs to the beach. Every step made her chest hurt even more. Finally, Brielle's bare feet touched sand. "Just a little further, and he would be safe," she told herself. Her heart stopped as she took in the edge of the shore. Even though her body was shaking, Brielle ran faster. Her lungs were burning and her feet aching, but she made it to Zane. Brielle collapsed beside him as the waves came in threatening to pull Zane into the ocean.
"Zane!" she screamed as she smoothed his wet locks away from his face. "Zane, no please. Zane please answer me." Tears ran down Brielle's face when he didn't answer. " You can't leave me, please." Zane's lips were purple and his skin was pale. She pulled him into her arms as she realized she would always be too late. Her heart that had finally for the first time felt whole shattered worst than it had ever done before. Sobs slipped from her lips.
"No!" Brielle cried laying her head on his cold chest. She laid there for hours while every ounce of happiness she'd ever felt was replaced with agony. "I'm so sorry....I should've known." Brielle felt cold and numb. Slowly she stood up. She knew Avery would deal with Zane's body. Her heart ached knowing he wouldn't be properly buried. She looked back before walking away, then turned to walk away from the only boy she'd ever loved.
