I woke up to bright lights, my head pounding. Where was I? Why am I here? Then it all started coming back as I started gaining consciousness, everything wafted back to my memory. The pain, that seering hot pain on which has now subsided. I could barely move over having all of that pain whenever I tried to move my legs but the pain overwhelmed me and I closed my eyes. I heard the door open and I opened my eyes.
"Hello?" I asked, my voice barely audible and hoarse. " I am Dr. Herman." He stared at me, then he looked at me and inspected my wounds. " You know you saved that little girls life?" I did? That's right, I got her mother out as well, then why didn't he say that she was alive? I wanted to ask but no sound came out. As much as I tried I couldn't manage any sound for the pain would overwhelm me. He told me that I would recover in a month or so. Great, I thought.

After I had eaten lunch, I felt a little bit better but I didn't think that I could hold it down for long. I wanted to get out of this hospital but there was no chance. I thought about everything, being an E.M.T. and all I bet that I would never be back on duty for a while, or forever. I tried to sit up or at least get out of bed, to no success did I ever get up. It made me more tired then I actually was, no one came to see me. Everyone knew me. This community is small, but some places like Blazein, don't have a hospital, they get taken over here or to a town near by.
With that, my first visitor came, the Ranger.
