"I noticed you do this thing where you scrunch your nose a little when you lie." James smiled at me.

"No I don't!" I exclaimed.

"See, you just did it." He smirked as I lightly swatted him on the arm.

"I hate you."

"Oh, you do now?" His right eyebrow lifted slightly and it took everything in me not to smile.

"Yeah."

"Now I'm going to go cry." James turned away from me, walking in the opposite direction that we were heading.

"James! Stop! I don't hate you! I love you!"

People in the hallway stopped and smiled at us, each of them whispering and gossiping about us to their friends. I rolled my eyes and hurried after him.

"I know you love me, just had to hear you say it." He swung an arm around my shoulder and pulled my head to his chest.

"Get off me you big oaf." I pushed him off of me, both of us smiling.

His brown eyes smiled more than his mouth did, and I had to look away to avoid getting caught up in the honey colored rings that seemed to melt into his chocolate orbs.

"See you later squirt." James said, ruffling my dark brown hair with one hand.

"Don't call me that!"

He chuckled and walked into his classroom, leaving me to deal with the mess he made of my hair.

"Hey!" An arm swung around my shoulders, turning me to face the owner of the voice.

I smiled at my other best friend, Piper.

"Abi, oh my gosh, guess what!?" Piper waved her arms excitedly in the air as her blue green eyes sparkled with excitement.

"What?"

"Joshua asked me out!" I screamed along with her and jumped up and down.

"Piper please tell me you said yes."

"Of course I did! I'd be an idiot not to!"

Joshua was the fastest kid on our track team, he was lean, muscular, had great hair, and was extremely sweet to Piper. I knew he was going to ask her out anyway, guys throw themselves at Piper on a daily basis, which is the biggest difference between us.

Piper has mid length curly blonde hair, her face is dotted with freckles, and she never breaks out in acne, plus, She's also one of the nicest people I've ever known.

Me on the other hand, my dark brown hair is usually always frizzy, my eye makeup usually smudges, so I look like a raccoon most of the time, and I can come across so sarcastic, that some people find it rude, which makes a little sense.

And the only guys I ever attract are ones that say I love you in less than a week, and before they even know me. Talk about overly desperate.

"Girls, quiet please, get in your seat." The teacher glares at us, and we quickly sit down. Piper shoots me a funny face which causes me to snort.

"Girls!"

We lower our voices to a whisper so Mr. Karenu can't hear us.

"Hey Abi?" Piper reaches her hand out to tap me on the shoulder.

"Yeah?"

"Are you okay? You seem like you've been a little upset recently." Oh gosh, I want to tell her, I want to tell someone so bad, but I can't.

"Yeah. I'm fine." I fake a smile.

"Okay." She smiles back at me, but it's her, 'I know you're faking a fake smile' smile.

Oh well, until I can admit my secret to myself, then I can admit it to her.

She'll just have to wait.
