We sat in this restaurant where I felt really underdressed in my rain coat with washed out jeans and a ratty sweater that has seen better days. I do have nicer clothing but it was supposed to be just, diner then home. Not diner, then dinner then home.
Jaime didn't seem to mind.
"So what do you do for a living?" He asked.
"I work at the diner and then in the mornings I work here as a house keeper. I don't really do anything other than that." I told him realizing how incredibly boring my life was. "What do you do?" I asked.
"I travel the world, meeting all sorts of different people." He told me. I nodded.
"Like for business?" I questioned.
"Yeah sort of." I nodded looking at the menu but not really studying any of it because well, I wasn't sure what I can order.
"Why don't we share a pizza?" I offered since it was the cheapest thing on the menu.
"Sure that sounds good." He put his menu down.
"So how long have you been travelling with your friends?" I asked sipping on the water I ordered.
"For about three years now. It's crazy but I wouldn't have it any other way." Three years of constant travelling? Holy shit. How wealthy are his and his friends? Unless there's something he's not telling me. I push that thought away, maybe there's a good reason why he wouldn't want to tell me. I mean I'm not exactly wanting to tell him about my darkest deepest secret.
"Oh okay. This morning was hectic with work this morning. A lot of check outs, apparently there was something going on at the venue here." I tell him. He nods coughing awkwardly.
"Were you there too?" I ask.
"Yeah I was. It was hectic there too." He said with a smile. I shook my head.
"Busy days are the best." I say.
"They really are."
Okay he was kind of creeping me out now.
"What's your last name?" I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I don't know him.
"Preciado."
"You're Mexican?"
"You couldn't tell by my first name?" He chuckled before I could answer the waitress came to our table.
"What can I get for you guys tonight?" She asked.
"Large pepperoni pizza." Jaime told her. She nodded and wrote in the fancy notepad they have here. "Any starters?"
"Cactus cuts?" Jaime said giving her an award winning smile that made her blush. I looked down at my lap, I guess he has that affect on everyone.
"Sure thing." She took the menus. "It won't be long." Then she gave him a wink before retreating. If I was his girlfriend I would've thrown a breadstick at her head but then again what a waste that would be. Also I'm not his girlfriend so why are these thoughts in my head.
A little while later when we were halfway done the pizza, the power went out. A gasp fell upon everyone in the room. The backup generators turned on but it was still dim.
"Well shit I'm screwed." I muttered.
"What why?" Jaime asked.
"Front desk tells people it'll be better to stay indoors. Especially since they know me." I told him with a sigh.
The manger named Rick came into the room.
"I apologize for the blackout ladies and gentlemen. It seems someone had hit a power pole and they don't know if the power will be on tonight. The meals will be free, and a room that's seventy five percent off will be given to those who are here just to dine." He said. Murmurs burst out upon the people in the restaurant.
"Well guess I should go get my room." Jaime said. "Erm do you want to share one? I know we just met but it'll be better than you trying to find your way home in the dark." He told me.
"Sure." I told him and we both got up, Jaime grabbed the rest of the pizza and followed me to the front desk.
"Lena what're you doing here?" One of my roommates Kelsey asked.
"I was eating, with him." I told her awkwardly pointing to Jaime. She nodded giving me a secret smile, I rolled my eyes. Of course she thought I was on a date.
"Anyways we need a room." I told her then realized how that sounded.
"Sure. It'll be under your name?" I thought about it. I could pay for the room since they're half price but before I could answer Jaime stepped in.
"No it's okay. I got it." He smiled at me. If the lights weren't so dim my blush would be very easily to tell. Kelsey got us a room without further question probably because the line that formed behind us.
"What floor is our room on?" I asked Jaime still feeling weird about sharing a room with a male, that isn't my boyfriend then again I never had a boyfriend in such a long time.
"Third."
"That isn't too much of a walk up."
"Why can't we use the elevators?" He asked making me stop to look at him weirdly.
"You want to use the elevators... in a black out?" I said hoping he'd catch on.
"Oh yeah, duh." He laughed. I couldn't help but chuckle either then we went towards the stairs.
"Man I'd hate to have a room on the eight floor just about now." I said waking up the stairs.
"Me too."
When we got to our floor, it was kind of hard to read the room numbers but when we did and finally entered our suite my eyes bulged out of my head. There was only one bed. A kingsize one to be exact. Damn it Kelsey.
"I thought there would've been two beds." I told Jaime sheepishly.
"It's okay. I don't mind, I can take the couch." Jaime said stifling a yawn.
"No it's fine. I can." I argued knowing how uncomfortable those couches are.
"Why don't we just share the bed. I mean it is big enough." He told me. "Unless you don't want to. I mean I probably sound like a creep but I'm not I swear."
"I'm just a creep." I sang softly causing Jaime to laugh.
"Shut up." He said getting on the bed, patting besides him. "See lots of room."
"Okay." I whispered going to the other side and getting under the covers. About twenty minutes passed and we both laid there in silence, not really moving much.
"So, you're not tired?" Jaime asked me.
"No not really." I replied.
"Me either. Do you like living here?" He asked me.
"It's alright. I mean I don't know anywhere else to live." I sighed then turned towards him.
"Where do you live?"
"San Diego, California." He smiled in the darkness.
"Really? I've always wanted to visit."
"You should. It's my favourite place in the world well because it's home to me."
"Maybe one day I will." I yawned suddenly feeling tired. "Tell me some more." I whispered getting comfy. Jaime went on talking about all the places he's visited. I felt like I knew him better than I knew anyone else in my life.
"Where's one place you wanna be right now?" Jaime murmured.
"No where. This right here, is where I want to be." I said sleepily before closing my eyes. I heard him reply. "Me too." Then I fell asleep.
