Spark's POV

Finley, Elliot, and I all go to South Valley High. We are all comic book nerds. We all hang out at Paradox, our local comic book store, everyday after school. We are known at school as geeks and comic book nerds and we like it because it's us and not some fake cover we put on. We've been inseparable since pre-school and we plan on staying that way forever. But forever may be longer to me then Fin and El.

I have a secret--one that not even my best friends in all the universes know. And I don't plan on telling them any time soon. Telling them would mean putting them in danger and I can't put them in danger no matter what.

As we walked home, Fin was being his spastic self and Eli was as cool as ever. Which meant he looked like a moron trying to look cool and I was good with that. He was our moron and we appreciated him monstrously.

"You guy's wanna head to Paradox?" I ask. The little walking man shows up on the square across the street and we walk.

"Thought you'd never ask," Fin said and I laughed. "By the way, where'd you go the other day after school? You didn't meet us a Paradox and your mom said you weren't home." This. This is the part of keeping this secret that gets annoying. I can't tell them where I was because I was in battle with my arch nemesis and saying that would make me sound crazy. But it was true.

"I was busy...at a friend's house," I lied and

"You don't have any other friends," Fin said and I slapped his arm.

"Rude," I said with a roll of my eyes even though it was true.

"But true," Eli said, echoing my thoughts and I jumped forward and slapped his arm. He flinched a little and then we all laughed. Paradox was just up the street and we all raced to get the store first. Of course, like always, I won. "How the heck are you so fast?" Eli asked between pants and I laughed. I wasn't even out of breath.

"Because I am a natural born athlete." He rolls his eyes and I laugh. "I can't believe you're out of breath. I know we're like geek-nerds and all that but you're a dude and seventeen. You shouldn't be out of breath." I patted his shoulder and then looked at Fin who was clutching his stomach and trying to catch his breath.

"She's right," he pants. "And so is he. You shouldn't be that fast." I slap him then sit on the couch that was for people who played video games. I reached for the remote but then something caught the corner of my eye. I turned around on the couch and readjusted so I was sitting on my leg and looking at the back of the shop. There was a sheet over what looked like a new cardboard statue. Carl and James, Paradox's owners and brothers, walked out of the back and leaned over the counter. I looked over at them and signaled them with a wave.

"What's that?" I asked them and Carl walked up to it.

"Our new Electress cardboard stand. And we just got it shipped in. We were just about to unwrap it." I swallowed the lump that had formed and looked at El. He was in love with Electress and I found it weird. Mostly because I was Electress, the teenage superhero. Also, I had a massive crush on Eli ever since middle school so...yeah.

"No way," Eli said, quickly moving to stand next to the figure. "You know why she's the best superhero ever? 'Cuz no one knows who she is. A few superheroes, mainly the old ones, have their alter egos known but not her. People can't even begin to guess who her alter ego is and it's so awesome." He smiled that perfect smile of his and I turned to Carl. He pulled the sheet off of the stand and I stared back at myself. I wore a mask because I didn't even want the chance of someone, mainly my friends, to recognize me. My outfit was black and purple and I had a purple lighting bolt on my chest. I didn't wear a cape because I found them overrated and I wore boots because after trying heels and falling, I decided never to do that again.
