"You don't have to be fearful of him or anyone here, nobody would dare touch you with the intention of causing harm." Derek said, looking directly into my eyes.

Then he waits for a few moments. For what purpose, I don't know. But after a while, he beckons to the doctor and when I try to retreat to my hiding place he doesn't let me. Instead, he lifts me in his arms. "It's okay, calm down, he's just going to do a quick check up."

I thought I could trust him! I try to pull away, pushing at his chest with my shaky paws.

My mate whispers more soothing words, holding me tight to his chest while the doctor sits beside us on the bed, giving me a reassuring smile. If at all, the smile scares me even more. I struggle harder.

Why would my mate do this to me?

"Okay, that's it." Derek warned me in a low voice. "Enough," he repeated but it did nothing to stop my assault against his rock-hard chest. And then--

"Enough, I said!" Dereks voice boomed and I went still. The doctor freezes in terror too.

"Listen to me here, I will not—will not—compromise your health, here, regardless of your fear of doctors. I know you don't like me right now—" I really don't. "—but I'm trying to take care of you here. So if I have to force you, I will. Are we clear?"

Crystal. I whimper in submission. I wouldn't dare pull a stunt after that.

...Or, at least, I had tried not to. But when the doctors hand reached for me I bit him almost instinctively.

The doctor shrieked and jumped back, a look of horror etched into his face.

I had a sudden urge to giggle.

But then I looked at Derek, who looked as horrified as the doctor. His expressions morphed into anger and his eyes transformed to a darker colour, almost black.

Derek was beyond angry. Derek was furious. But before he had a chance to lash out at me, the doctor, thankfully, intervened.

"I-I think it'd be better if I check her a-after she sh-shifts." He suggested, holding his bitten hand limp to his chest.

I growled at him. Coward.

"Yeah, you're right," Derek says with furious eyes still fixed on me and I relax, "hand me the first aid kit, doctor."

The doctor hesitates, but he knows better than to question his Alpha.

Holding me to his chest with one hand, Derek uses the other hand to take the kit, and places it open on the bedside table to search for something inside.

What is he doing?

He takes out a sharp needle filled with yellow liquid and I immediately jerk forward to get out of his hold, but he was just so much stronger than me.
I whimper, looking up at my mate, hoping he was not going to do what I thought he was going to do.

"No, little one, you don't listen to me, I don't listen to you. Simple as that." Derek tells me, without looking my way as he closes the kit.

"Oh! The shifting injection–that should make her turn into her human form," the Doctor said, "how did I not think of that?"

"Probably why they didn't make you the Alpha?" Derek teased.

"Of course," The doctor laughed nervously as he extended his hand out for the injection.

Derek looked at doctors hand and then back up at him. Raising his eyebrows he asked, "You want your entire hand ripped off? Because, trust me, that will happen the next you come near her."

The doctor swallows loudly and immediately retreats his hand.

Derek turned to me, "I'll take care of this," he muttered to himself making me shudder at the conviction in his voice.

Derek cups the back of my neck, forcing me to look up at him. "Look into my eyes. I promise it won't hurt. Keep looking. Don't move, the more you move the harder it will be."

Prick.

"Keep looking into my eyes. That's it."

I try to move, but his grip on my neck tightens slightly, not allowing me to. I whimper again in protest.

"It's okay." He tells me and just as soon as he does, it's gone.

I think he tosses the needle onto the bedside table, but my vision had become fuzzy due to the pooled tears, so I couldn't tell. My body started feeling heavy and my movements sluggish.

What's happening? I look up at Derek against my heavy eyelids, confused.

He then gathered me close in his arms. "Shhh, it's okay, it's done. Now close your eyes and relax, okay? Let it go. I'll be right here."

I close my eyes, as instructed, and invite the black oblivion.
