I woke to the sound of my phone ringing loudly and vibrating. I looked to see my mother calling and quickly answered.
"Morning Darling,I heard about what happened to your neighbors last night. It was all over the news. I'm so sorry dear. I know how you adored their 2 young children."
She seemed worried and sympathetic. I don't blame her for being so. If I had a child who lived right next to a apartment that a family got murdered in I would be just as high on my guard and worry as she is.
"Yeah...um..I was wondering if I could see you today at work. About the Johnsons..I wanna know what happened to them. Although I know your not supposed to I really wanna understand what could've made this horrendous person commit such a crime and like with all your cases there may be clues left behind."
"Yeah. That would be okay. Just keep it on the down low, okay? I don't want to raise anymore hysteria in this town than there already is. Come by at 5."
I compliantly obliged and we left off with the conversation by telling each other we loved one another and hung up. I occupied my time by watching AHS:Hotel until the clock struck 5. I grabbed my bag off the chair and the house key off the table and walked my path down to the Dudley memorial mortuary. It was only 3.9 miles away so it didn't take me long to get there.
As I walked in the door my mom cooed and hugged me tightly. She handed me a white lab coat and blue latex gloves and we headed to the 4 gurneys that held the family's lifeless bodies. I laid my eyes upon the 2 young children and the sadness made a comeback. Sorrow engulfed me as I could imagine ko their small bodies pale and limp of any sign of life. The sadness that ensued gave me determination though to press on and continue to find the culprit to all of this tragedy.
My mom uncovered the father first and what was carved into his chest made my stomach churn. In the middle aged Mans chest, written in putrefied flesh was the words "Go.To.Sleep" with a Chelsea grin carved into his cheeks.
It struck a suspicion in my mind as I remember the pale white male at the club having the same type of grin as the victim. My mind boggled the information around a bit until I came to the conclusion that it was most likely just a coincidence.
Next we walked over to the mother. My mother uncovers her lifeless body and there wasn't much to assess other than the fact she had asphyxiation marks around her neck, wrists, and feet. It seemed like she had been bound but not by a usual weapon like a belt, cloth, or rope. It was more like string.
And finally the 2 children. My mother gave me a worried look before asking me if I really wanted to go through with seeing the children in that state. Although hesitant,I agreed in doing so and she raised the cloths off both of the children's bodies. The site made my stomach do summersaults and I hurled in a nearby trash can. I'll never forget the pure anguish I felt as I laid my eyes on the mangled up children. Tears streamed down my face and sobs threatened to escape.
The oldest had his eyes gouged out and fingernails ripped off, leaving behind bloody, pink flesh in it's place.
There were chunks of his flesh missing from his arms and legs as if they had been eaten on by a rabid dog and glass shoved down his throat. The youngest of the 2 boys had his chest cavity opened up as if someone was preforming surgery and inside there was all kinds of Halloween candy that replaced his organs. His eyes had been forced open by fish hooks that gave him a never ending stare. I couldn't handle the horrific sight of the children anymore and demanded my mother cover them up.
She consoled me as I sobbed in the corner of the room due to all the memories of me and the family rushing back. I honestly couldn't understand how my mom kept such a calm demeanor with having to experience such atrocious tragedy bestowed upon the innocent such as this. Due to my new feeling of depression I hugged my mother goodbye, thanked her for letting me observe, and took my leave.
