16 years later....
"Serenity, get your butt out of your bed. Your going to be late for school and this isn't your first time."
Serenity grumble as she put the pillow over her head and screamed sarcastically . "Dad, it's not like the school's gonna burn down just because I'm not there."
"Serenity, don't make me climb up the stairs," warning etched in his voice.
"Finnnee I'm up," she yelled.
Feeling more agitated then she'd ever been, she got up and took her shower.
When she finished, she wore her clothes, grabbed shoes and ran downstairs, just to see her dad cooking.
"Morning sunshine, how are you doing this fine morning," he asked holding back a smirk.
"Dad, just shut up. You obviously know how I feel about mornings and this morning isn't particularly fine by the way." She said smiling mischievously at her dad.
Her dad laughed, his voice filling the kitchen with happiness. Turing his head, he got out a plate and put chocolate chip waffles on it.
"Here you go."
"Thanks dad," Serenity muffled, while stuffing waffles in her mouth. Just as she was about done, she heard a car honk in front of her driveway.
Serenity look at her dad, eyes pleading to leave.
Justin, Serenity's dad put his hand over his heart, pretending to be hurt by this.
"I thought you were gonna let me take you, sunshine. Now you want to go with Marcus?"
Serenity laughed at this. "Dad, you know exactly why I don't want you to take me. I'm sixteen and in high school if I may remind you. I'm not the little girl you used to know. Now may I please leave?"
"Fine, go and have fun but make sure you come back home safely, and don't get into trouble at school Serenity."
Never understanding why her dad always said those words every day, she grabbed her book bag off the floor and walked up to Marcus's car. Marcus opened the door for her and pushed her into the front seat.
"I'm not going to be late again because you can't seem to get your head out of your ass, Seren. Now put on your seatbelt before you dad starts nagging me about being responsible." He said playfully while driving out of the driveway.
"Well Marc, I'm sorry to know that my dad nags you about responsibility but what can I say, my father's words are true," Serenity exclaimed, looking over at her best friend. Marcus made a sour face at her then continued to watch the road that seemed to stretched out in front of them.
"Did Astria text you about the new kid that just arrived at our school? Apparently he's a "hunk". Her words not mine."
Serenity laughed at this. "No she hasn't texted me and told me anything. We are not that close of friends and I'm pretty sure she despises me after her boyfriend started hitting on me, telling me how beautiful I was. So I'm pretty sure she's trying to keep this "hunk" to herself.
As they approached Avastri High School, Serenity started getting a headache.
"Ugghhh, this is why I hate school so much."
"Headache?" Marcus questioned.
"Yep." As we made our way into the parking lot, lots of girls were gathered in front of a particular car.
"What hell is going on back there?" mumbled Serenity.
"Don't know, but let's go check it out," demanded Marcus as he got out of the car. Following right behind him, they made their way to the crowded car. As they got closer, Serenity felt her headache getting worse and started to feel a sharp pain in her chest. Approaching the car, she could feel her breathing starting to get labored as if she'd run a marathon.
"Seren, are you okay? You don't look to good," Marcus asked getting worried.
"I'm fine," gasped Serenity. "Let's just see what's going on around the car and then get to class. The curiosity is killing me and you know how I hate not knowing things."
Serenity managed a weak reassuring smile at her friend. When they finally made their way to the crowd, the pain had gotten worse.
She felt beads of sweat forming against her head and dripping her down her face. Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit her and felt the pain in her chest get worse. Turning to face the crowd, she saw a guy, looking at her in surprise and saw his face twist in pain as she felt the pain hit her.
Feeling unbalanced, the world started to swim around her as she started to lose consciousness. She was surprised to see the guy also swaying with her, as if he was feeling what she felt. She heard Marcus scream her name numerous times but felt as if he was far from her reach.
As she fell she felt Marcus's arms wrap around her body. Just in time before her head hit the concrete, but not in time to save the guy from falling against the concrete. And just like that, darkness over came her.
