Promise
"Miss Brooks!"
I'm jolted awake. I find myself sitting at a classroom desk, surrounded by a bunch of giggling teenagers and one glaring teacher.
" Sleeping in class on the second day. " He clicks his tongue. " Not a good start to the school year." He scribbles something down on a notepad.
" I'm sorry, sir." I stammer, rubbing sleep out of my eyes.
He shakes his head. " I suppose you don't even know who I am, or which class you're in." My blank stare must have gave me away. Everyone snickers at me.
He sighs angrily." Well then. I, am Mr. Allen. You're in math. " He scribbles more on his notepad.
I sigh. Not even a week into school, and I've already gotten myself into trouble. Wonderful.
...
As the day continues to crawl by, I can't stop thing about the dream I'd had this morning. It was weird though, because I had only met Jamie, Joy, and Emerald yesterday, and they were there. Along with six other people, who I'm sure I've never met before. My family. The words ring in my head.
When the lunch bell rings, I'm the first out the door. I want to tell my new friends about the dream I had. I'm so caught up in looking for them, I run right into Emerald, causing her to drop her lunch box.
"Whoa, slow down!" Her black hair falls in waves around her face as she picks it up. She's wearing a blue shirt that reads got swim? in big bold letters. Her intelligent sea green eyes study me intently.
"Sorry, Emerald. I was just looking for you. And Jamie. And Joy." I stammer.
"They're finding us a table. I came looking for you."
"Oh." I follow her into the cafeteria, where Jamie and Joy are having a heated conversation.
"I can't believe you stole it!" Jamie scolds Joy, who has a bracelet in her hand.
"Oh, c'mon, Jamie! She won't even know it's gone." Joy promises, along with her mischievous grin.
Emerald and I take two of the four remaining seats at the table. " You guys won't believe the dream I had last night." I tell them.
"Try me." Jamie says. "I've had my fair share of crazy dreams." Her chocolate brown eyes hold so much depth, you'd think she'd seen everything.
"The dream took place seven years from now. I was... I was dying. I'd been stabbed. You guys were all there, along with some other people." I describe the others, and how they were all looking at me with some kind of respect. Before long, I have told them everything, even the waking up in math class part.
"Let me get this straight," Emerald says. "You dreamed about the future? And you were dying?" I nod.
" And you were sleeping in math class!?" Jamie exclaims.
"Yeah..." I reply.
She starts to explain to me about how bad sleeping in class is, but I tune her out and instead focus on eating my sandwich.
"Excuse me, but are these seats taken?" Asks a voice behind me.
I turn around, and find myself looking at two boys, who appear to be my age. The first boy has sandy blond hair, and electric blue eyes. The second has dark brown hair, and piercing violet eyes, which I'm pretty sure is not a normal eye color. My breath catches in my throat, because I know them. They're two of the boys from my dream.
