My body knows you better than I do. I don’t know your dads name or what your favorite book was when you were a kid. I don’t know the color of the walls in your old house or what makes you laugh so hard you can’t breathe. I don’t know the story of your first kiss or why your little sister won’t look me in the eye when I try to talk to her. I don’t know where that scar on your right wrist came from or how you chipped your tooth. I don’t know all the words to your favorite song or if you can draw. But my throat knows to tighten when you don’t call me back. My heart knows to beat against my ribcage when you kiss me. My fingers know exactly what parts of you to touch. My skin knows to burn when you look at me and smile. My lungs know to stop working so well when you call my name. My hands know to shake a little when you brush against me. My stomach knows to twist itself into a mess of knots and butterflies every time I see you. I swear my body knew to love you before I did.
