The Dance

The next morning, I wake up in my bed. Strange. I thpught I fell asleep on the beach.

I look at my clothes and see I'm still in my swimsuit with my clothes over it. I roll out of bed and walk to my closet. I grab an outfit then go take a shower.

After I get out, I dry off and put on aztec print bikini top and black bottoms. Over that, I put white short shorts, a blue crop top that says 'Young Wild Free', and blue Vans. I do my makeup and leave my hair down.

I pull my phone from the charger and grab my PennyBoard. My PennyBoard is one of a kind- literally!

My uncle works at a PennyBoard factory and he made me a board. It says Disney in the fancy writing across the middle. Then around it are all the Disney princesses. The wheels are black and the backround is white.

I go to the kitchen and write a note for Alana, then leave. I plug my earphones into my phone and put them in my ears. I click a playlist in 8Tracks and the song "Dear Maria, Count Me In" comes on.

I smile and begin to skate down the sidewalk.

Without stopping myself, I sing along. I pull a few skate tricks, also.

I end up skating down the boardwalk, next to Myrtle Beach. The next song, All The Way by Timeflies, begins. I sing along again.

While turning the corner, I trip over a crack and begin to fall. But warm arms aurround me as I look into loving eyes.

"You havent learned from your fall yesterday," he says laughing.

I laugh along and look into his eyes.

"Thank you again, Joseph."

He laughs. "That's not my name."

I stand back up and grab my board. I quickly look at his attire: basketball shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

Joe shrugs. "Looking for a Starbucks," he says pointing to the coffee shop we're in front of.

We go inside and walk to the counter.

"One cotton candy frape," I order.

"And a salted caramel mocha," Joe follows.

I turn to Joe and say, "Can I pay you back later?"

"Nope." He pulls out money for both of us and grabs our drinks.

"You're too sweet," I say taking a sip of my drink.

We sit in a booth and sit in silence for a few moments.

"Joe," I begin. "I can't thank you enough for last night."

"I wasn't about to see you get hurt. But now you owe me an explanation."

I sigh. "He's just an ex I broke up with a few months ago. He absolutley hated it."

Joe gives me a look, signaling he doesn't believe me. But he doesn't ask anything.

We talk a little more, then leave.

"So where are you off to?" Joe asks as we begin down the sidewalk.

I shrug. "Just gonna skate some more the go down to the beach to surf."

He smiles and says, "You seem to love the beach."

"I feel free there," I answer. "Like no one can judge me."

Joe puts his arm around my shoulder.

"You're something else. A good something."

I jokingly roll my eyes and laugh. I leave Joe's arm and tell him bye as I begin down the beach.

"I'm going to come watch you," he shouts running over to me.

I place my board on the sand, along with my oufit. I run to the beach shack and grap my surfboard.

"Go Sav!" Joe shouts as I begin to paddle out.

(I do not know anything about surfing so I'm skipping to after she surfs)

I paddle back to shore, throwing my board into the sand. I stay in the water.

"How do you do that?!" Joe shouts with a shocked expression. I laugh and shrug.

"Come in!" I shout to Joe. He rips off his shirt and flip flops.

Before he gets in, I shout, "Wait!"

"What?"

"Turn my music on?"

He goes back to my bag and turns my music on. The first song is 'Summer' by Calvin Harris.

"You're obsessed with the electro genre," Joe says.

"No doubt about it," I say smiling.

Joe laughs and runs towards me, before tackling me into the water. I open my eyes underwater and playfully slap Joe. He laughs and we both surface.

We splash each other in the water for a few minutes before someone shouts our names.

We turn to the surface and see Marcus, Alfie, and Zoe approaching us. I smile and wave to them.

"Thought we find you here," Zoe says placing her stuff by mine. The song is now 'I'm Ready.'

"Come in!" I shout to them. Marcus and Alfie, who is carrying a football, instantly join us. Zoe lays out a towel and begins to tan.

The boys form a triangle around me and throw the ball to each other.

"No fair guys! I'm only five foot four!" The guys laugh and continue to throw the ball.

After them continuously doing this, my ears tune in to the song just starting.

"Ooh I love this song!" I shout jumping out of the water.

19 You + Me plays off of my phone. I run to the sand and begin to dance by myself. I know for sure I'm getting strange looks, but I don't mind them.

My smile seems permanent as I sing along. Someone grabs my waist and spins me in a circle.

"May I have this dance?" Joe asks. I nod and laugh.

Joe places his left hand on the small of my back and his right in my hand.

We dance with each other for the entire song. Something about this feels...right.

When the song ends, Joe pulls me into a hug.

If it's wrong to be doing this I don't want to be right.
