the familiar autumn breeze danced across dawn's pale cheeks as she made her way up the steps of auradon prep. red, orange and brown crisp leaves were scattered across the pavement and some had even managed to become tangled up in dawn's white hair.

dawn had only been at auradon prep for a mere few months. she had crossed the golden bridge alongside dizzy due to her dear friend evie making an arrangement with the king, ben.
it had definitely been an odd first few months due to the absence of halloween spirit which usually filled the air back in the small village of halloweentown.

dawn missed the halloween festivities greatly and so that morning when her calendar read 'october first', she nearly bounced out of her bed with joy at the realisation that she could finally decorate her room with little pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns.

with a skip in her step she slammed open the doors of auradon prep, almost hitting multiple people due to the force she had used but she didn't seem to care as she hurried on, ignoring the groans of the nearly injured.

suddenly a hand was clasped around dawn's arm yet before she could turn to see who owned the hand she heard a rather familiar voice.

"hey there miss skellington," evie said as she hooked her arm with dawn's, "you look rather cheerful today." evie noticed that her friend almost had a glow emitting from her usually colourless cheeks.

"do you know what day it is?" dawn questioned, yet evie never had time to answer due to dawn blurting out the words "it's the first day of halloween!"

"sweetie, halloween isn't until october 31st," replied the blue haired girl with a giggle. she had quite honestly forgotten that dawn once lived in halloweentown, a town where it would forever and always be halloween.

dawn both sighed and rolled her eyes at the uncultured girl. she had expected her to be excited for halloween seeing as she once lived on the isle where it was a massive festivity, though no one seemed to enjoy the season as much as dawn even there.

"no, evie, we need to start planning everything now. we need to carve pumpkins and decorate our rooms and decorate the halls and-hi ben-and plan matching costumes and..." she was soon cut off from speaking when evie had placed her gloved hand over dawns painted red lips.

"sorry about her she's just a little over excited," evie explained to the king standing before them. halloween wasn't a very appreciated holiday in auradon, likely due to the fact that it gave people the freedom to dress up as villains which offended many students and parents.

"no, no it's fine," ben replied with a smile, "you're talking about halloween, right? what's it like?" he asked, his attention now on the ghostly pale woman.

dawn's eyes lit up with pure delight when she began to think of halloween and all the amazing memories she had of it. "it's just...spectacular," she replied, "maybe we could have a halloween ball! oh my wouldn't that be amazing."

"oh no, i don't think-" evie began to contradict her statement before ben cut in. "i think that's a wonderful idea!" the king stated to which dawn almost squealed in delight, although she didn't as she didn't want to look that desperate.

"that sounds perfect! i need to buy decorations and costumes and-" with the shriek of the school bell dawn was cut off once again, and the trip remembered that they were in school and had a lesson to attend.

"well i'm off to class but maybe we can meet up and discuss more?" ben offered, and as dawn nodded her head he quickly turned, but not before picking a stray red leaf from the top of dawns head. at the sight of dawns flushed red cheeks he soon left in the opposite direction, leaving evie with a flustered dawn who wouldn't shut up about how excited she was for the ball.

at that moment all evie wanted was for mal to place dawn under a month long sleeping curse, but she decided against doing so as she didn't want dawn to hate her for the rest of her life.
