Glass breaking was all I heard before everything went black.

I woke up in a hospital bed, wasn't the first time. I glanced down at my arm and sure enough there was a bandage with blood threatening to escape. I shuddered as memories of last night popped in my head.

"Nora! Nora where are you you little selfish brat!" My adopted mother screamed stomping up the stairs heading towards my room.

She kicked the door open with a bang than marched inside and shut my laptop. I looked up at her to be greeted with a hand being slapped across my face. "I thought I told you not to get caught. We don't need this right now, you know the deal. You get caught and no dinner."

She shook her head in disapproval before making her way towards the exit, "oh and Mike will be here shortly for your punishment." She snickered before leaving.

I shuddered at the thought, the last time Mike gave me a punishment it involved me getting hit at least a couple of times with a baseball bat. I sighed before laying down and burying my face into my pillow.

A couple hours had past before I heard him and the door slamming, "he's here." I whispered to no one in particular. I moved my black coal hair out of my face as I began to sit up.

"Nora! Get your ass down here now!" I got out of bed and did as I was told too scared to object. "Yes Mike? I asked waiting for the punishment to be announced.

"Did you or did you not get in trouble with the school? Mike asked awaiting my answer. "I did not. All I did was get questioned by my principal for the scars on me." I said trying my best to not shake but I wasn't doing very well.

"What exactly did you tell them?"

Silence.

"Are you deaf? I asked you a question!" I shook at the tone of his voice, "I told him that I was in an accident with a car. A car crash." He loosened up a little. "I see, even if that is the truth I still can't relieve you of your punishment. It's your fault for not hiding the scars in the first place," he spit at me which made me flinch.

Mike turned around and was handed a glass vase by Jamie my so called mother with a sinister grin plastered on her face. I slowly backed away, "please." I begged as I fell to my knees holding back the tears, "please don't. Not this, anything but this.

Mike was making his way toward me. I tried to back away but he grabbed ahold of my black hair. Hard. I winced as he held me up to his face. "Bitch," he whispered only loud enough for me to hear him.

Before I could do anything else he tightened his hold on my hair and smashed the vase on the floor. He than picked up one of the glass pieces and started to dig it into my arm sliding it slowly and painfully, I let out a scream but he covered my mouth with the hand that wasn't piercing my skin with glass.

Tears started to fall and I let them. I watched as the blood made it's way down my arm. I started to feel weak, I closed my eyes.

Glass breaking was all I heard before everything went black.

I was shaken out of my thought when the door to the hospital room opened and there stood two figures. "Ohmygod my poor baby," Jamie said with fake love in her eyes. Mike placed his arm around Jamie and gave her a squeeze. "She will be able to leave first thing tomorrow morning," I looked at who was speaking to see the doctor standing at the doorway.

They both nodded before turning back to me as the door closed. "Listen here you brat, one word and your dead." I looked at Jamie with hate in my eyes and I nodded before I spoke, "so how did I get the cut?" I was preparing myself for what they would tell me. The lie they would tell me.

Mike was the one that spoke, "you supposedly got in an accident involving glass." I couldn't help but laugh to myself, "Another day, another lie." I rolled my eyes before Jamie was the one who spoke next.

"They don't know that and that's all that matters," she snickered before turning to her husband. "Come on, let's go." He nodded as he followed her out.

I couldn't keep it in anymore. I let it out. I let out the tears I have been trying to hold in all day. Why didn't they love me? Care for me? Like a mother and father should? Even if I am adopted they have raised me as their own since I was two months old and I was now fourteen. They abused me but I still thought of them as family.

I cried myself to sleep that night thinking about what would happen when I woke up. I didn't want to think about it.

Soon I was awaken by a doctor letting me know that Mike and Jamie were here to get me. I sighed and got out of bed and followed the doctor which led me to the people I call family.

"Lets go," Mike said as Jamie and I followed him out and into the car. It was quiet the whole way back.

Eventually we were in front of the house. I got out of the car and slammed the door behind me making my way to the front door but a voice stopped me. Mikes voice. "It's Saturday tomorrow." I nodded and continued my way into the house closing the door gently behind me.

It was Saturday tomorrow. Tomorrow was the day that I would have to work again. I blinked back the tears and headed up to my room slamming the door behind me.
