"Mummy I'm so scared". Bella whispered shakily.
"Don't be dear, everything's going to be fine, alright?". Margaret said trying to sound bold for her little girl. She was so close to tears, she had just seen her own darling husband shot and death was the last thing she wanted for her daughter.
"Where is daddy, I want to see daddy now" Bella said startling her mother from her thoughts.
"Sweetheart you need to talk softly okay? " Margaret said then stopped to look around. "Please, your dad is going to be alright, I just need you to stay calm Bella". She hated to lie especially to her daughter. She just wanted all this to be a dream, so she could wake up next to her husband Davis and laugh for hours with him.
"Alright mum" Bella whispered.
"Madam, follow me I'll take you to safety" John, one of the family bodyguards said cupping Margaret's mouth knowing fully well that she was going to scream out of shock.
Margaret recognized John's voice and turned to look at him. She had never been so glad to see anyone. Finally this is someone who can answer my questions, Margaret thought to herself. "Where is Davis?, Where is my husband?, is he alright? and can someone please tell me what's going on?" Margaret said in a rush. "Answer me John! " She said again slightly raising her voice at him."Sh, keep your voice down, you don't want to blow our cover, do you?" John whispered.
"I'm sorry John, I'm just worried sick." Margaret said.
"I know, I understand you madam" John said and stopped to take in a long breath. " Madam, Davis, he's." John stopped again not knowing how she would react to his news, the last thing he wanted was for her to break down. She couldn't break down now, he still had a promise to fulfill, he had promised his boss that his wife and little girl would be safe.
"What's wrong John?" Margaret asked, her voice dropping to a whisper. She feared that her thought might just turn into reality.
"It's Davis madam" John paused then continued "I'm afraid he, he, he's gone". John stammered. He also couldn't believe that Davis was dead. Davis was like the family he never had and that was why he made such a promise even though it might cost him his life.
"No, no, no, you're kidding right. Oh, no, John tell me you're joking please." Margaret could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. "It, it, it can't be t-t-t-rue". She stammered. "He loves me and I love him that's all that matters, death can't separate us". It was a nightmare hearing such news about her husband. She saw him shot, she knew he was going to die but she just didn't want it to be true. It's not like she was crying out of shock, she already knew her husband was dead she just couldn't bring herself to believe it.
"Mum, please stop crying, I'll start crying too". Bella said to her mum.
"No, no, I'm not crying sweetie". Margaret said turning to look at her daughter. "There is no need for you to cry okay. "She said staring deeply into her daughter's eyes. She had to be strong for her daughter now. "sweetie, please put your coat on, it's really cold out here". Margaret could hear the quiver in her own voice.
"Let's leave now, I have to get you both out of the house". John said.
"No, we are not leaving without daddy. Where is daddy?". Bella asked looking into her mother's eyes eagerly, expecting an answer.
"Sweetie" Margaret said running her hands nervously through her little seven year olds hair. "Your dad is fine okay? We aren't leaving him. We are going to join him". She paused then smiled at her daughter. "He's waiting outs...." Margaret managed to say before the interruption of the bullets that ran past her ears. Within a twinkle of an eye, John was laying flat in his own little pool of blood and little Bella ran off in fear. Everything happened so fast, she felt like her whole life was crumbling and there was nothing she could do.
