"Again," I encouraged. "As hard as you can!"
"I...I don't wanna hurt you, Zaza!" Midori replied. "Hurting people is bad..."
"But sometimes, Midori, bad people will try to hurt you. And the only way to help yourself is to hurt them back."
She stared at me curiously.
"But then I'd be the bad people..." she mumbled. I sighed, clearly not getting the message across. Midori's training had come to a halt recently. She had started to understand what it truly meant to injure people, and I had started to understand how much of a pacifist she was.

"I won't fight!" She yelled, rather angrily.
"Okay, how about this," I told her. "Can you make a big wooden block for me? Really big, as big as you can."
"Um...okay," she answered, as she carefully began to shape the block in front of her. Once it was finished, I gripped my sword tighter and swung it down beside the block.
"I want you to do that, as hard as you can. Straight through the wood," I told her. "That way no-one gets hurt, okay?"
"I...I don't want to..." Midori mumbled nervously.
"Midori, protecting others is extremely important, and I know you have the strength to do so," I attempted to encourage, before leaning down next to her with a warm smile.
"Will you do it for me, Princess?" I asked. Midori glanced down at the wooden sword she'd been given (since she was not yet trusted with steel) then back at the block she had created. There was this pacifistic nature inside of her that she just couldn't seem to fight against- it prevented her from breaking even a lifeless object. I waited patiently for what wasn't to come. Just as I was about to attempt another persuasion, the block suddenly exploded.

As an instinct I shielded Midori from the pieces of wood flying across the training hall, before glancing around to see who had caused something so dangerous. Nate stood in the doorway of the hall, leaning casually on the frame.
"She wouldn't have done it," he explained. "You were wasting your time."
I stared at Nate closely. His eyes were dim, and reflected nothing back through them.
"How did you do that?" I asked him. He simply shrugged in return.
"I morphed the floor to pierce the wood from underneath, then reverted it back. Divinity creation is easier when the substance is already there. It's just like you're adding stuff to the mixture that's already made."
From my experience with Natsu and Lucy, I had learnt that divinity creations had to come directly from their body. This meant that Nate's explanation didn't make sense.
"How did you do that from all the way over there?"
"Does it really matter? I was just trying to make your job easier-"
"Nathaniel," I said sternly. "Answer me."
He paused for a moment, then continued.
"I created a path from myself. I morphed the floor slightly, from my foot, then morphed the spike when it reached the block. Just because divinity creations have to be made from our body doesn't limit us from using long range attacks. As long as the creation is linked to us, we can create paths."

The knowledge that he possessed never ceased to amaze me. Nate's superior intellect paired with the fact that he was born with divinity, meaning he has grown to use it as well as an arm or leg, made him undoubtedly skilled. Sure, Lucy and Natsu had spent hours training to refine their abilities and the potential that divinity could unlock, but it was easy to see that Nate and Midori would eventually be able to use divinity like no one else.
"That's enough from you," I told him. "Your mother said you weren't allowed to use divinity unless you were training or were given permission. You're not old enough to understand how it works."
"Did you not just hear me answer your questions about divinity?" He argued. "I may not know every detail but I sure know more than you."
"Nathaniel-!"
"That's enough, Nate."
All three of us turned, to see Lucy waiting at the door the opposite end of the hall.
"Lucy..." I greeted, evidently embarrassed. I had been arguing with her five year old son, after all.

Lucy made her way over to Nate, who was pouting stubbornly.
"You never stop causing me trouble, do you?" She told him. Just as I imagined her embracing him, comforting him and teaching him how to properly behave, I received something of a completely different caliber.
