Chapter 8

Cameron's POV

"Well..." Dave, no... Daren begins, "I came to see you." My chest tightens. I've known this girl for less than a day and she already has my heart in her hand. Oh, no. This isn't happening. I know it's real when I feel my heart sinking. He kissed her. Right in front of me, and worst of all, she kissed him back. I need to get out of here.

Maddie's POV

I know what's about to happen as Daren's soft, blue eyes look into mine. He leans in and his lips brush mine. His familiar taste of mint, now feels foreign to me. Only a few seconds pass when he breaks the kiss and looks at me, "I missed you, Beautiful," I give him a small smile. I jump at the sound of the door closing. Where did Cameron go? "I'll be right back," I tell Daren.

Cameron's POV

Did you not learn your lesson with Bella? I ask myself. I push my way through doctors, nurses, and families, determined to get out of this hospital. Oh, shit. Of course it would start raining, right now. That's when I remember that I'm Maddie's ride. I stand outside to get my bearings and take a breath. After what feels like hours, I walk towards the hospital doors. As they open, I bump into someone, "I'm so sor..." I begin, when I see who it is, "oh hey," I say awkwardly.

"We always seem to be bumping into each other," Maddie says, trying to break the silence.

"About me running off like that-"

Maddie cuts me off, "Don't worry about it," she looks at the floor, "I'm going to say goodnight to Daren."

"I'll wait in the car," I tell her. I unlock the car and plop down into the drivers seat, waiting for her return.

"So he is your boyfriend," I need to learn to keep my damn mouth shut.

"Not exactly," Maddie looks straight ahead, "like I said, it's complicated."

"Care to share?" I ask, not sure whether or not I want to hear this.

"It's a long story," she tells me.

"I've got time," I push for an answer.

"We've been best friends since the fifth grade, but it all began last July..."
