Lincoln's POV
After spending what seemed like an eternity in prison - 6 months- Lincoln felt as if life sentencing was a bit much for his situation. He'd been set up and falsely accused of murder. And for what? He had no clue as of right now, but his younger brother was determined to find the reason behind his wrongful imprisonment. Life in prison was difficult for many, but Lincoln simply kept to himself. He didn't respond to the pestering that the guards did, and he certainly didn't try to choose sides on the inside. The blacks, the whites, the Hispanics - it was all race-based and nothing he was interested in. All he could think of on the inside was how he was missing very important moments of his now 15-month old daughter's life. Sadie had been left in custody with her mother once Lincoln had been arrested, and she'd only brought Sadie in to visit him 3-4 times over the last 6 months. His heart was breaking, though he held little to no love for the mother any longer.
Sadie's POV
It's been around six months since Sadie had her little arms wrapped around her father's neck. For some people, six months don't change much, but for this little toddler, it changed her whole aspect of who her father was. Sadie had ever since birth been very bonded to him. Her first word ever spoken was 'dada', her first crawling steps was towards him, and she would never take the bottle if it wasn't him feeding her. But that was six months ago. Things had changed now that Sadie was no longer a nine-month-old baby, but rather fifteen-months old.
( The further throwback from Sadie's view.)
As a nine-months-old infant, -Sadie would spend most of her time crawling around the house to explore her new abilities. But no matter how far she crawled around the house, she always somehow ended up in front of the front door. She would usually pull herself up onto her little bum and stare at the door, hoping for her daddy to walk back in. As the days flew by, Sadie's visits to the front door became less and less viewed. It was all thanks to her mother who was doing her best to keep her daughter occupied. She didn't know how to tell an infant that her father might never come back. The easiest of an excuse she could come up with was that ''Daddy... is bye-bye.''
At ten-months-old, - Sadie had stopped using the word 'dada' around and replaced it with 'mama'. Being used to him not being there, her mind was slowly forgetting what his image and presence were like. But that all changed when she was taken to visit him in prison. Seeing him through that glass, excited Sadie as the memories came back to its place. She was now unable to keep herself seated still in her mother's lap and did her best to reach out to him. But the glass between them made it impossible. The room soon was filled with a loud cry from Sadie as her mother left, letting Sadie get her one last look at him.
The big twelve-months, - It was Sadie's 1st birthday party. There was a bunch of people gathered there to celebrate her, with the cake and all the gifts. It was all that was needed to keep this little one satisfied. But as the party had come to an end, there was one more trip to be made. The prison. Promising she would bring Sadie to him on her birthday was a promise that was kept. Sadie, however, this time, was not paying any attention to the man behind the glass but to her new puppy stuffed animal. She had accepted the idea of him not being around and was starting to grow less attached to him. Because the whole time sitting there, never once did she say the word 'dada'.
Now as a fifteen-months-old, - Sadie has given her mama a full-time job around the house. She's extended her dictionary with a couple of new words, which the word 'no', seems to be a favorite one. Instead of just crawling, Sadie has now found a new hobby which consists of her grabbing onto all kinds of furniture and objects while walking around. Sadie even learned how to express her feelings when it comes to her bottle, as she now knew how to take it all by herself. Yeah, things had changed, since six months ago.
Authors note; This will get way more exciting, wait until the next chapter. This was only a small introduction to what's been going on with Sadie since her dad had gone to prison.
