February 28, 2017: The Escape.
Lincoln's brother had been successful. He'd been arrested as well and within the last 2 months, they'd managed to work up a scheme for escape. Using the ventilation system as a pathway, by March 1st, they were well on their way to freedom. Lincoln's brother stood by his side once over the wall and the others parted ways with the police heavy on their heels. Lincoln called a close friend of his he could trust, inquiring about his daughter and finding out just how things were playing out back home these days.
''She's staying with her grandparents this weekend.''
Lincoln couldn't have planned it any better. With his ex out of town, he'd have the opportunity to intervene.
Driving for miles from Chicago, he and his brother arrived at Sadie's grandparent's home. The car engine shut off and Lincoln stepped out, a clean pair of clothes on his body as he headed to the front door of the house. A few knocks on the door and it opened, a surprised older woman standing before him.
''Lincoln.... What are you doing here?''
''Where is she?'' The convict pushed past her, looking around as he walked through the house finding the little girl seated in the living room in front of a movie with her puppy stuffed animal in her lap.
''Sadie...'' A smile dented his cheeks as he kneeled down beside her, letting her see him before he pulled her into his arms.
''Hey, baby girl. We're going for a little trip, okay? Let's go get your bag.'' He lifted her up in his arms and carried her to the small room where her things were, tossing some clothes of hers into her bag along with her essentials her mother had left there.
''Lincoln!!! You just can't-''
He left out quickly and climbed into the passenger side of the truck, holding her in his lap since they were without a proper car seat. As Lincoln's brother left out from the drive rather quickly, he held Sadie on his lap now facing him, smiling and bouncing her gently.
''I missed you, sweetheart.''
