Drip. Drip. Drip. You watch the moisture pool and fall from the ceiling, joining the cesspit of bodily fluids. You move tentatively along the slimy concrete, fearful of losing your footing and slipping into the disgusting pit.
"What the hell am I doing?" You think to yourself, a valid question. "Am I an idiot to follow her advice?" Yes, yes you are. Most people don't venture into a sewer under the advice of a vague acquaintance. Even if you do find him here it won't be how it should be.
It's getting darker, daylight struggling to permeate through the sewer drain above. The further you go, the fewer barred windows, less connection to the outside world.
You'd thought about him ever since you were young, he's always make you smile and as you grew a childish obsession turned into something else. You were filled with longing, not even necessarily to touch him. Just meeting him would be enough, even being in his presence would be enough to fulfil your urge.
It's totally dark now and you are forced to use the small torch stolen from the garage. The light is dim but better than nothing. Fear begins to emerge, crawling through the cracks in the brickwork. You tell yourself not to be afraid. This is of little help.
"Will he still be the same?" The key question that had been buzzing through your brain for the last week since you heard the news. For he had fallen, most unjustly and certainly not through fault of his own. A family issue driving him to the edge, or a failed romance that crushed his dreams. How else would someone end up in a place like this? In a state like this? You stop yourself, imagining his condition can do no good.
You're edging slowly along a particularly narrow edge when you hear it *SLAP*, *SLAP*.
The shock almost knocks you from the ledge but you steady yourself, it's the unmistakable sound of a flipper on the damn sewer side. Aiming your torch into the dark abyss you catch sight of him. Glowing, tender eyes. Sweet velvety green skin, and finally those long fingered flippers you'd studied for days.
There was no mistaking that frog, for which you longed so deeply.
