*Kates POV*

The wind was blowing through my long blond locks, caressing my face with a cool breeze. The scent of fresh grass and the pollen rich smell of wild flowers filled the air, making it so pure and so clear. I took in a deep breath, filling my lungs with fresh oxygen.

The rythmic thumping of hoof beats on the ground and the swishing of tall grass sounded like music to my ears as my stallion cantered across the meadow, giving me the electrifying sensation like I was flying across the ground. Slightly bent forward, my hips moved in sync with the movement of my horse and wearing only a knee length dress, I could feel its flank against my skin and some of the tallest grass tickle my ankles, with my feet bare in the stirrup

As I exhaled, I opened my eyes and a wide smile stretched across my face as I took in my surrounding. It was breath taking. The meadow infront of me was a magnificent span of grass and wild flowers that made the ground look like the palette of an artist. It was covered in different shades of green, purple, yellow, orange and red. The sky above the meadow was a clear blue, filled with small soft cotton-candy-like white clouds chassing each other and the sun was bathing the whole scenery in its yellow rays. In the distance, the mountains had their peaks burried in the fluffly clouds and it completed the mesmerising view infront of me.

The silky chestnut coat of my stallion was shining in the sun and it was so hypnotising that I couldn't resist but briefly ran my fingers through its black mane.

Suddenly the scenery started changing before me. The clear blue sky started morphing into an angry reddish orange colour and big black clouds started forming above my head.

The temparature started rising considerably, and my stallion became more and more agitated, his endless neighing making my panick level reach to its highest point.

"What is happening?" Cried my conscious.

The soft fragrance of fresh grass and flower immediately disappeared as a whif of smoke invaded my nostrils. I turned around and the horrifying scene made my blood run dry.

There was a huge wall of black smoke following us, and beyond that smoke was a raging fire, devouring everything on its path like a ruthless beast.

"Yah, yah!" I hit the horse's side with my heels, ordering it to gallop faster, but we were not fast enough. I could feel the heat of the fire on my back.

The smoke billowing from behind me was so thick that I couldn't see past my hands on the reins.

Suddenly the horse disappeared and I found myself all alone, surrounded by the burning furnace. The smoke-filled air became suffocating and my breathing got harder.

I fell to my knees and started coughing and choking, the smoke prickling my eyes. The heat was unbearable. I looked around through teary eyes for a way out, but only saw the hungry flames closing on me. I couldn't escape the intense heat of the flames as it slowly crept closer.

Agonizing screams echoed through the crackling of the fire, the spine-chilling coming from my mouth as the flames started licking my skin. Thousand knives kept stabbing contineously all over my body and the smell of burning flesh filled my nostrils.

I couldn't fight anymore, the furnace was burning all my oxygen, I couldn't breath anymore, and my struggling ceased as all energy left my body. All I could do was wait for the agonizing pain to become so unbearable that I would pass out.

"Kayla , kayla..." screamed a voice close to me, but I didn't have the strength to open my eyes.

"Huh?!" I bolted straight up in my bed, panting and gasping for air. My vision was blurry and my skin on fire, my heart was thumping so hard in my chest that I bet people could hear it from down the street. My throat felt raspy and dry.

I reached for the bottle of water on my nightstand and swallowed half of its content, and slumped against the headboard.

My body was drenched in sweat and my silky nightie was clung to my skin. I looked around my room, everything seemed normal. I checked my phone, it was 2:30 a.m, 1 message and 3 miscalls from mel.

All of a sudden I felt a wave of nausea. I kicked the covers off of me and swung my legs over the side of the bed before rushing to the bathroom.

I got there just in time to stick my head in the toilet bowl and spew my guts out. When there was nothing left in my stomach, I flushed the toilet and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. I lifted myself shakily from the ground, praying that my wobbly feet would be able to take me to the sink. Leaning against the sink, I lifted my head and looked in the mirror, and my heart skipped a beat. My hair was still tied in a bun, but instead of my usual blond locks, my hair was partly stained black with smoke residue, and I had a few soot stains here and there on my cheeks and forehead.

I immediately wiped my cheek with the palm of my hand and checked for any trace of soot.

NOTHING!

I looked back into the mirror and my reflection was normal, no smoke stain, no soot, just a horrified Kate looking back at me.

Both hands gripping the edge of the sink, I took a deep breath, "what is wrong with me?" I whispered to myself.

"You look like crap." Scoffed Mel, as she plopped herself on a chair next to me.

"Yeah, rough night." I sighed, rubbing my face.

We were only halfway through our shift and I wanted to go home already. There were only 4 days left before we had to start working in a much more exciting department.

"This explains why you didn't text me back last night. Wanna talk 'bout it?" She asked concerned.

"Not really. So, how was your date with sexy Joe?"

"Sexy Joe,huh, well it was... sexy." she gave me an evil grin.

I knew that look, "what did you do this time?"

"We tried his parents' bedroom." she grinned even wider.

My eyes grew big like saucers, "OMG! You didn't!!"

She smirked, "yes we did, and we almost got caught."

That's how crazy and risk taking was my stupid best friend. She was always the most daring one, the most adventurous and the most crazy one. I was more like the silent deer, always cautious, on my guard, ready to flee if I sense danger.

"You're impossible, Melia..." I shook my head, "So, are you still coming over tonight?"

"Oh course, boo. Tonight it's supernatural marathon!" She squealed, squeezing me in a bear hug.
