Max's POV

I wake up and look around I'm in a hospital bed. the room is white and I see David asleep on a chair. I see him start to move and I pretend I'm still sleeping. I hear the door open.

"anything new?" it's Gwen.

"still sleeping..." David replies.

"Gwen I was thinking, sense obviously his original parents won't get him back maybe-"

"David are you really going to try and take care of a child by your self?" Gwen interrupts.

"well I'm not going to just send him away to some orphanage!" David says back.

Gwen sighs, "It's just... this is a big decision and maybe you should think it over a bit." she says.

I hear her leave, after a few minuets I hear David start to get up. I don't want him to leave!

"David..?" I say sleepily pretending to be just waking up. he turns around quickly. I feel him pull me into a hug.

"your alright!" he says happily. a doctor comes into the room hearing the commotion. he stops when he sees David hugging me.

"I see he's woken up." the doctors says smiling.

David puts me down. the doctor dose some checks on me.

"he'll stay here for a day or two just to be sure there's no other issues but after that he can go home." the doctor says leaving the room.

I feel fear burn through my body, I don't want to go home! if I go home then I know what they'll do...

"max can you tell me how you got suck in a ditch?" David asks sitting next to me.

I look down. "my parents don't like me..." I say quietly.

he puts a hand on my shoulder. he asks a few more questions before he looks at the time,

"I guess I should leave you to rest." he says getting up.

"David!"  I call after him.

he looks over at me.

"will you be back tomorrow?" I ask.

he smiles softly, "sure max." he says as he closes the door.

I let myself fall sleep, I wake up in a generally good mood. I see a cup of black coffee on the table next to me. there's a note on it.

"I hope it's the kind you like! sorry I couldn't stick around. I'll be back later
-david"

I smile and take a sip of the coffee. not half bad. I hear the door open. I set the coffee down on the table. I look up and see my father step through the door. he steps toward me, I feel my hands start shaking.

"w-why are you here?" I ask trying to keep my voice steady.

"I'm your father, of course I would be here." he says stepping closer.

"get away from me!" I scream my father grabs my arm

"never talk to your father like that again." he says sternly.

I hear a quiet clicking sound but I don't look, if he has a gun he'll kill me I know it.

"your not my father!" I shout.

he raises his hand to hit me and I flinch. I wait for pain but nothing comes. I open my eyes, it's David the clicking must have been him entering the room. he's holding my dad's arm back from hitting me.

"you aren't welcome here." he says in a stern tone.

my dad pulls his hand away and dusts off his shoulders.

"sir that's my child I have the right t-"

"to what? tie your child to the ground and leave him in a ditch to die?" David interrupts him.

my father looks at David burning with rage.

"and what are you doing here!?" my dad asks almost in a growl.  "I'm here to take my kid home." David says.

my father glares at me and then back at David.

"I'll see you in court about it." he says pushing David out of the way.

I look up at David. "y-your taking me home with you?" I ask.

he gives a soft smile "well this wasn't the ideal way to tell you, but yes. I've done all the paper work already. so your legally my son!" he says cheerfully.

I start crying and I latch onto him in a hug. I feel him hug me back, I feel tears flow down my face. after a bit the hug ends. I dry the tears from my eyes. we walk out of the hospital.
no, we walk home.
