Chapter 2: Did I Mention He's Cute?

The beach was crowded. It doesn't surprise me, though. It's a warm, summer day. Why wouldn't it be packed?

I park my car and grab my suit. I jump in the backseat and quickly change, careful not to be seen. I then pull my vans back on. Once I'm in my bikini, I climb back into the driver's seat. I grab my wallet and towel, and climb out of the car, being sure to lock it behind me.

I walk on the gravel, up to the beach. I recognize many people from school. Some are just classmates, and others are what I'd consider friends. I mean, we aren't super close, but I'd definitely invite them to a party I'm throwing.

To the left, about twenty feet down the beach, is what is known as the boardwalk. It's a section of the beach that was lower than the rest, so the city paid to even it out by making a giant porch-type thing. Many small businesses, such as a local ice cream shop called "The Sweet Shack", are running along either side of the boardwalk.

As I start heading towards the boardwalk, I look to my right and see multiple families enjoying the beautiful, summer day.

Just as I return my attention to what is in front of me, I run into someone.

"I'm sorry-" I start, just as the person I ran into starts laughing.

I look up at them. It's a boy, around my age, and he has shaggy blonde hair and bright green eyes. His face has some freckles; not too many, just enough to make it cute. He has a dimple in his left cheek when he smiles. And his teeth, well, they're perfect. I check out the rest of him to find a well toned body, and a plain blue t-shirt covering what I'm guessing would be perfect abs. He has black swim trunks and sandals. Oh god. He's gorgeous.

"You're cool," he laughs, his voice deep and sexy.

"Um. I, um. Okay," I manage to get out. I'm not the best when it comes to attractive boys.

"I'm Sawyer. What about you?"

"Riley," I respond.

"Well, Riley, it's nice to meet you. Would you maybe want to get an ice cream with me? I'm new in town, and I heard The Sweet Shack is the place to go," he says, looking into my brown eyes with his green ones.

"It is! And to answer your question, I'd love to," I reply, realizing this is the first guy I didn't compare to Spencer.

"Great!" He says, as he bends down to pick up my towel. I didn't even notice it wasn't in my hand anymore. I guess I must've dropped it when I ran into Sawyer.

We walk towards The Sweet Shack together. It's towards the middle of the boardwalk. The boardwalk is probably close to the length of three football fields. I know, it's huge.

"So, how long have you lived here?" Sawyer asks, breaking the silence between us.

"My whole life," I reply, giggling.

"I see. Do you like it?" He continues the conversation, altering his attention between me and where he's going. I guess he doesn't want to run into someone else.

"I guess. I mean, it's boring to me. Since I've lived here my whole life. Don't get me wrong, the city is beautiful. I'd just like a new scene," I answer, truthfully.

"Just from talking to you the past couple of minutes, I can tell you're different than anyone I've met. I like that," Sawyer admits.

I blush at his remark. He's cute. And nice. And did I mention he's cute?

We finally reached The Sweet Shack, and Sawyer holds the door open.

"After you," he says with a smirk.
