Isabella
Light from the morning sun glowed through fluttering white curtains. The subtle glow was still too bright for my newly awoken, hungover eyes, pulling my white and baby pink quilt over my head nuzzling further into my pillow. Soft sun rays create an angelic glow on white wooden surfaces and cream carpets. Everything ached and my feet and practically died in my heels last night. Blinking heavy I rubbed my eyes and I looked down at myself, the now crumpled wonder woman costume was still on me from past night maybe I passed out. I thought hard I couldn't remember a lot of last night just heavy amounts of alcohol. With that the headache set in I massaged my temples and forehead my arm was super sore and agitated I scratch the point while shifting in my bed turning on my side to look at my, Uh Oh, I have 10 minutes to get ready and leave throwing my legs over the edge of the bed nearly falling and rushed to the wash room for a shower.
I stumbled out the front oak door my school bag chucked on my shoulder, toast buttered and hanging out my mount while I try to throw brown waves of hair up into a messy bun. I spun in school shoes on cobbled path and spun straight into Charlie "ah Char" I jumped dropping and re-catching my toast with cold fingers "don't scare me like that" I yelled at her and quickly she covered her ears I'm guessing she has a hungover too most likely so do the others. She had walked from her farm a few miles down the road, we walked to school most mornings unless she has hockey. A large brown scarf wrapped around her neck to keep her warm in the frosted weather with winter fast approaching I guessed most people would start breaking out the woollen wardrobe with the changed of season. Rubbing my tired face, I noticed an itching on my arm like when a cut gets a scab not wishing to aggravate it I pushed to the back of my mind. We started to walk.
Under a dove grey sky, the colours of my world don one their winter coats each hue darker and richer than before. The path sparkles and crunches like sugar under foot and the coolness dances on goose-bumped skin. Though the flowers sleep and the trees show their lofty arms one more a smiled played on my lips school is better with hungover class mates. The wind howls as the students arrive at the front gates, hustling and bustling down corridors friends greeted each other with a hug or playful punch while newcomers stand looking scared. The eldest years stand tall, proud and born of experience and soon the bell will ring and everyone will run except the occasional slowcoach or chatterbox. Charlie and I laughed to each other as we walk to the form room.
In form the tables were set out in neat rows with chairs pulled in and out, the walls were decorated with Science facts and key words meant as prompts, the teachers desk was strewn with papers and no doubt had a hidden prank in their possible set by Ester, Dany or Wren, the white board had drawings on and the interactive board was staring blankly into the class. I looked at Char she seemed to have her attention draw to something on her arm I would ask her later. The door to the classroom swung shut behind Char and I as we walked into the room. Ester was sitting on the table with Dani opposite her on a chair the spoke quietly most people in the room were all holding their hungover heads I couldn't tell if they were still in costume or not. 5 seconds after our arrival Maisy busted in "wow I'm late was trying to find something to soothe this mark on my fore arm" she muttered I didn't remember Maisy tripping last night but Ester, Dani and Char snapped to attention "you too" they all said a bit loudly provoking hisses from class mates "on your right forearm you have a mark too also I have this herbal remedy cream it will help " Ester exclaimed handing over the ointment then pulling up her jumper sleeve and sure enough an upside down triangle with a line through cut into her arm with green powder rubbed in, the others immediately pulled their sleeves up. Dani had an upside-down triangle with blue power rubbed in, Char had a right side up triangle with red powder and Maisy a right side up triangle that had a line running through it with yellow powder. "Isa lift up your sleeve I notice you scratching your arm this morning" Charlie asked me I did as asked of me and to my up most shock I had a circle with purple powder rubbed in "what the hell happened last night" I exclaimed at the others making my own and their ears ring " I don't know I don't remember but we need to try remember and fast before this becomes a problem keep them covered up Ester call your cousin she might have seen these symbols before she takes RS doesn't she" Maisy pointed at our arms and the look at Ester who gave a nod, she wasn't wrong and I had a funny feeling Ester and I had seen these symbols before and my gut was telling me this isn't good. We are involved in something really deep and I think we should be worried, my mind is screaming at me that its something in that basement that caused this but I hope it really isn't.
